Lhadatt: What role did Aruze play in the world of Neo-Geo? I know they lent their name to Shadow Hearts(a stellar title by any standards) though Sacnoth aparantly developed it.

Also I think SEGA needs to get into a comfortable possition before undertaking such a daunting task. In the end they'd have to cloak and dagger their way onto the market waiting to get specs on other systems before making any public announcement on their unit, while they upgrade it to be much better.

The only people who would buy a new Sega console without hesitation reside on this board. And maybe Gaming-age. Fact is, Sega has fucked over 95% of the videogame buying public way too many times. Sane people do not like spending $200 on a system that becomes a doorstop with no new games being released 16 months later. Thats what happened with DC. Meanwhile, Sega was losing $400 million a year and had to issue bonds and shit to stay afloat.

If Sega actually ever makes a new piece of hardware ever again, they deserve to go out of business. Shit, they already do now.

There's a unique and profound thrill that comes with booting up a shiny new Sega game on a Sega system. I wouldn't be particularly averse to experiencing that wonderful feeling once again.

Maybe if Sega can continue to stay in the black for another couple years, it could come to fruition. It's a tad early to be committing to such an endeavor now, though.

Unmentioned in all of this is that games are still being published for the Dreamcast in Japan. Not supported by Sega themselves, of course, but a Sega system is obviously still viable for some companies.
