Thread: SEGA to re-enter console race?

  1. What irks me about Sega, is that they started doing what they should have done in the first place, only after they killed the DC.

The Shinobi and Panzer sequels...the Genesis remakes...why couldn't they have done this for the DC? If they did..would there have been a need for them to go 3rd party?
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.

yes. they bled out the ass for years. going 3rd party was the only way to save themselves. good gawd somebody make a sticky to the scribes sega history.

  3. But what doesn't make sense to me is why Sega suddenly changed their tune and started listening to their fans only after killing the DC. Before they killed the DC, Sega never talked about sequels to Shinobi, Outrun, Streets of Rage, etc...but now it seems like every Sega franchise is getting a sequel. It's as if they had already decided long ago that the DC is not in their long term plans.

  4. because they had a userbase with the ps2 that even if the older remakes didnt sell, whatever they pushed onto the ps2 would and thus keep them afloat. really....what sequels or remakes have actually sold enough? vf4 is a million seller, orta bombed....i could go on. my point is....lookit ecco for the dreamcast. they spent x amount of dollars making that game, released it on a system that already had a sub par userbase and the numbers just werent there. more userbase equals more chance to have a game sell well no matter what it is.

But weren't those same fans the ones praising Sega's ability to make good, original games not based off their old titles? ChuChu, Samba, SC5, Typing of the Dead, etc etc...weren't sooooo many people in love with the fact that Sega wasn't just using the DC to pump out sequel after sequel?

Because Sega teams didn't worry about money and could do whatever they want back then. Now they're in charge of their own finances and fund themselves.

I've read it and if most people here had read it, they'd know that the Dreamcast almost never happened. We were lucky to get the DC and should be happy that we did. It would'nt have mattered what software Sega released on the Dreamcast, the casual gamer did'nt care and this is the market that matters most. It would have taken titles like Final Fantasy, Madden and Metal Gear Solid to make the average gamer care.

Sega is best staying a 3rd party. The dream of new hardware should stay just that, a dream.

Majesco would be nice for this. If the DC was rereleased as a $50 system and had the SNK ports, Border Down (hope it shows on DC), Ikaruga, etc. coming here- it would get some sales. The market on used DC games would get a shot in the arm as well. It should be made region free as well... there'd be no point in a territorial lockout.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

Fact is, Sega has fucked over 95% of the videogame buying public way too many times. Sane people do not like spending $200 on a system that becomes a doorstop with no new games being released 16 months later. Thats what happened with DC. Meanwhile, Sega was losing $400 million a year and had to issue bonds and shit to stay afloat.

If Sega actually ever makes a new piece of hardware ever again, they deserve to go out of business. Shit, they already do now.
Although I know most people are just engaging in wishful thinking in this thread, Sega is most likely beyond rehabilitation as a consumer hardware manufacturer. I've enjoyed most every Sega console released thus far, but if they announced a new one tomorrow, I don't think I'd be first in line to preorder it at EB.

Sega should take comfort in the fact that no matter what happens, there'll always be people willing to buy any console they release, so long as they release it.

  10. Never say never...anything can happen. You can't tell me with 100% absolute certainty that if Sega became hugely profitable in the next few years, and if Sony stumbles, that they would not at least consider the possibility of re-entering the console hardware race...
