Thread: The Hulk

  1. I don't know, I haven't put the code in yet. I'll let you know when I do, though.

  2. Wow. I typed in the Mr. Fixit code and was caught totally unaware. It isn't just a costume change, but an entire character change! The Hulk's blows, as Mr. Fixit, do not inflict as much damage, but the trade off is undenyably cool...the Hulk is given a voice with which he calls out sarcasticly, and intelligently to all his enemies! He says about five different things per enemy type, and unique dialogue for evey boss character in the game.

Excellent, excellent extra! I am well pleased.

P.S. To all those not in the know, the Grey Hulk is extremely intelligent. I believe he resulted in one of Dr. Banner's flubbed experiments to cure himself of the Gamma poison. Instead of curing him, it changed him into Mr. Fixit (permantly I believe...bye, bye Bruce), and lent his hulking mass the brains of Banner himself.

  3. i wasnt expecting much from this game but me and a buddy rented it last night. we just threw the soldiers off the rooftops for hours but i must say that first real boss (that voldo lookin electrical jackass) was a real pain in the ass. not a bad game at all tho.

It happened in issue #324. Thet thought that they had found a way to cure Banner with a nutrient bath. So he hops in, and in traditional "Rick Jones is a fuck up" manner, Jones falls in and absorbs about 30% of the gamma radiation from Banner. The two people in the bath is too much for the machine to handle and it shatters.

This is what created both the Gray Hulk and the Rick Jones Hulk. But the Gray Hulk didn't become Mr. Fixit until later when he kept Banner out of his psyche and moved to Las Vegas. There, he took a job as a legbreaker and started living the good life.

Until Issue #373, when the Green Hulk took over once again.

In other news, The Hulk has spawned what may be the most hideous controller of all time:

Does anyone buy that crap? I've been playing games since I was 10, and I never would have gone near anything like that.

Anyway, Veggie's gotten me from "I don't give a shit about the movie or the game" to "I still don't give a shit about the movie but I might buy the game for like $15 someday."

  7. First of all, a bonus film-shot which seems to be new:

I got to play the Hulk at EB today -- they have it set up on all three systems. The Cube visuals seemed very vibrant, with the Xbox visuals being the same but more soft. PS2 had its usual 'realistic' lighting quality, not sure if it's that kiosk screen or what but it also looked good. All three looked identical other than their respective minor visual differences due to system. When Hulk leaps into a new scene you get a close up and the Cube version seems to slow down just a bit here. The Xbox kiosk has the great sound quality though, and unfortunately the Cube kiosk's sound is barely even audible, so I couldn't tell too much about sound. (I played the Cube version, merely watched for a while on the other 2).

Well, it seems fun enough as a beatem-up. None the worst possible flaws in a 3D beatem-up were evident here -- you know, crap camera, walls getting in the way of the action, etc. Even on the first play I was pulling off Hulk moves and throwing beams, crates, cars and Ryo's forklifts at Hulk Dogs and soldiers with ease.

The game starts with the outside desert scene. This is merely a preface to the game to train newbie Hulks. Defeat the tank, turn into Banner and then sneak into the laboratory with the aid of another guy who is drawn so RICHLY as the 'evil looking scientist' I LOL'd! The stealth scenarious are easy so far -- even breaking the computer code was painless (think uber-simplified Baku Baku but with numbers) and kind of fun IMO. Eventually you Hulk-out again and there is an extended series of sequences where you follow the carnage caused by the other 'Hulk' (it is explained in the cinemas) while smashing through walls, defeating soldiers and Hulk dogs, and leaping from building to building. The first boss you battle can absorb your health, so you must throw things at him / bat him with girders & pipes rather than punching. He was easy to defeat.

Overall it is fun beatem-up action. I'm still not convinced it's worth $50 buck I will definitely rent this then buy it cheap later on. Best things I saw so far: grab a soldier, leap into the air with him, then hurl his body into another soldier! Walk up to a wall and beat it down! Leap into the air and stomp down, causing the screen to shake and the floor to buckle! And other soldier-beatdowns are very satisfying at first play.

I expected this game to blow. I played it today in EB and I was quite impressed. It seems like one of the better modern beat 'em ups. I'll buy it when it's cheaper.

  9. I still think the movie Hulk looks really gay. It looks WAY to fakie. He just doesnt look right.

I bet the GAME is better than the MOVIE. I bet thats a 1st.

Heh alot of people expect comic book games to blow the same way videogame movies are expected to blow as well as licensed games expected to blow. The Hulk seems to have covered all the bases from the comic transition to the movie(well I'll hold my tongue till I see it), to the videogame which people find actually *GASP!* fun! It seems these people(videogame developers and corporate guys) are getting the idea that the games have to be actually FUN and need help from the production studios at the movies or wherever they get their source material from. I think there will be a gradual increase in quality to licensed games(EGM this month with the Castlevania LOI has a feature on it) with maybe a few stinkers. Possibly that T3 game but its a FPS so we'll see.

Not many people are interested at all in the subject matter of the movie since he was CG'ed up so that might kind of hurt the game sales but I like everything I was shown so far. I'm not aching for a new game now or anything but I DO want to play as Hulk and just beat shit up as well as supporting successfully made comic book videogames. Most likely I'll either buy it at 40 and under or buy it now, depending on my fervor.

And Mog, stuff it before you see the movie in theaters and I'll say the same for myself.
