Thread: My adventures in DDR cabinet buying

  1. Well, the cabinet showed up on Friday. It is now finally in my house and working. First of all, for the price I paid I was expecting a real fixer-upper. You know, 2 stage pannels not working, covered in tabacco spit, and Bic Macs and possibly a dead cat inside the cabinet. Wellll.... I show up at the loading station to pick it up, and it's absolutly beautiful! I get it home and open the back of the cabinet up, and it looks almost brand new! Not even any dust. The counter says it has been played just under 10,000 times by the way.....

I stayed up until 4:30 on Friday screwing around trying to hook a Playstation up. Finally I got the Jamma fingerboard all soldered up and turned the whole thing on and....the picture on the monitor is beautiful too. I seriously couldn't be happier. Photos to come as soon as I get my hands on a camera or develop the non-digital pictures we took of moving it in.

  2. Now what I really need to do is hook up a PC for some Dance With Intensity custom song fun. Or at least a DC for that new Feet of Fury custom song enabled game.
I was about to say... Get Stepmania running.

Nice find overall, though. That was pretty cheap.

  3. Hey Nappa, are you gonna try to wire up an Xbox to it too? That would a cool pad to use online!

You should have gotten a PIU machine...

    Congratulations anyway.

  5. DDR should just go 8 arrows on single and 16 arrows on double. Call it DDR IIDX or something.

And it should allow more than two inputs at once, forcing the player to use more than their feet. Yeah.

  6. That story should be in the Tales of the Hardocre

    PIU does that.

  8. I was always considering buying a cabinet, however I dident want to do it just for personal use. As much as I play DDR, the modded soft mat hooked up to my pc with stepmania is more then enough, and when I feel fruity ill play it in the arcade. IF I really bought one, it would have to go somewhere public, and then I would want stepmania running in it so I would end up gutting it anyway :].
Only problem being is that hooking up a pc inside a DDR cabinet, although might not be rocket science, is beyond me for I know little of electrical mechanics. People have done it, because you always read about it on DDR forums, but their so arrogant about it that they never share how they did it with anyone else. If you succeed in getting stepmania to work, do tell :]

  9. PIU does that.
Which is exactly why I want to try it, but these Ohio arcades suck.

  10. I hope it's worth it man. Build a bar next to it and you can get some sick parties going. No one would mind paying at the door.
