Thread: I can understand backlash, but not against DKC

  1. I'm not a master of Sonic, or anything, but I've played it enough, to notice just how imaginative the gameplay is set up. The Waterfall zone has some great chain enemy jumps, that can only be accomplished with a perfect jump, while moving at a blazing speed. Once you've mastered a level, you can fly through it and take out a lot of enemies, with perfect timing. It's really an ingenious design and very original.

Can't be as dumb as you. Prerendered games just don't control well. That's why in RE only the BG's are prerendered. Plus that's why KI controlled like shiet. Only sprites and polygons hack it in the control department, with polygons you have physics too. DKC had a bit of a delay and felt a bit sluggish. So STFU.
Ha ha ha ha! Please, don't embarrass yourself any further. That's great stuff though.

As far as the whole "pre-renders don't controll as well as sprites" thing: Pre-renders are sprites! Complealy identical in every way.
Who to trust here... hmm, let me think about it.

Anyway, I always liked the Mario series better than Sonic (not to say Sonic is bad in any way, though). The comparison between any Sonic game and Super Mario World was ridiculous in my eyes. SMW just has so much MORE, for the love of god. I really like Sonic, but come on. Seriously.

  3. Wow, this thread is a mess. DKC backlash, Mario vs. Sonic, retarded rants on pre-rendered backgrounds, Genesis vs. SNES, Nights vs. Mario 64, PC Kid vs. Sonic... I think the one thing everyone can agree on is that GunValkyrie4Life is a fucking moron.

  4. The Sonic and Mario games are like apples and oranges. The similarity between the former being that they're platformers, and the latter being that they're fruits. The Sonic games place an emphasis on fast-paced action, so if you're in the mood for a methodical, more liesurely gameplay experience, you probably don't want to play a Sonic game right then.

The methodical gameplay style is a staple of the Mario games, but if you're in the mood for a fast-paced game, you probably don't want to play a Mario game. The contrasting styles between the two series are great since each series gives you the best of that particular gameplay style.

    STFU! MARIO RULZ BABY! WOOT!

    Sorry... having grade school flashbacks...

But seriously, I'm getting tires of the apples and oranges asnwer (even though I'm guilty of using it, too). Take a stand, bastard! :-P

    Being diplomatic is boring.

Because his opinion does'nt agree with yours?

  7. mZo, I dig what you're saying man. I'd have to do with the Sonic games over the Mario ones, since I love the fast-paced style of play more often than I do the methodical style.

Funny, how technology is pumping and chomping at the bit, grinding out some of the most beautiful games ever, and yet in truth I would take DKC on the SNES over 99% of anything on the market today. Just about the only thing negative they said that had any merit was that the bosses weren't all that great... but overall, at least the SNES version, was so wonderfully varied that to bash it now is pretty much an insult to gaming in general.

I can see the backlash to Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, and even Resident Evil, but is nothing sacred to this era that ISN'T an RPG or Mario?

And yes, I have played Donkey Kong Country "recently" and still hold this opinion. In truth, I would rather READ the manual for DKC than play 50% of the games on the market today, it is a riot

Okay, so this part of your post is pretty lame.

It's not really possible to have tight controls with prerendered characters. KI is about tight as the controls get and the control was not nearly as good as something like SF2.
if it wasnt allready pointed out id point out that hand drawn or pre-rendered its the same fucking thing and that the controls are all in the programming but insteall ill just call you a moron
