Thread: How many people here have first-person shooters as their favorite genre?

  1. "Would be even better if someone could design a controller for the **********consoles*****************"

  2. If you don't mind, I'm gonna derail the thread for a moment with a question you folks can answer for me.

Can someone outline the pros/cons of the PS2 rev of Deus Ex? I can't seem to find a copy of the PC game anywhere in town, while EB has the PS2 rev for $12.99. Should I go for it or wait until I can find it on the PC?

    Thanks

    JM

    Here's a pic:
The space orb is totally different than what they were talking about, but a cool console, and the only truly 3d contoller ever.

JM, are you serious? Deus Ex is available everywhere that has PC games.

The only advantage of the PS2 version from what I hear is that the characters have a higher polygon count. They also reworked the interface to be controller-friendly. And they had to break up the levels a bit so there's more loading. Personally, I would try and get the PC version if you can. It won't be any more expensive and you'll get proper mouse/keyboard control.

  5. I wouldn't really consider any genres my favorite but I've definately played some great FPS (Deus Ex, BF1942 (Desert Combat), Half-Life (Firearms), and Unreal Tournament to name a few). I don't care for RTS games much...I suck at them:P Realistically though, I probaly play way more FPS then anything else with RPGs most likely being my second.

  6. Hmm... Spaceorb, you say? Looks interesting, I wonder if any are still floating around for sale.

You could look into reverse-engineering the XBox USB port and slap a gamepad adapter on the other end. That would be damned cool, and could properly identify what that extra black wire in XBox pads is.

    Woohoo!! Firearms!!

Vampire Slayer is still my favorite Half-Life mod though.

  8. I'm not really an FPS fan, but I do enjoy playing the odd FPS occasionally. I do most of my gaming on my own, so I appreciate an FPS with a good single player mode more than one geared towards death matching. Half-Life, Goldeneye 007, Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Underground are probably my personal favourite games in the genre.

  9. Hey, I don't know if you guys have seen this or not, but since there is so much System Shock 2 love here, check this out.

This willmake the ingame character models look much nicer, when it is complete.

    Here is a screen shot.

I just thought Neo & Xs would be interested.
