Thread: Have you ever been driven to piracy?

  1. Yeah, mostly games I wouldn't want to buy like Quake 3 for Dreamcast (just to see) and such. I have mostly emulators for arcade games. I like owning the original some times, but I don't like spending the money alot of people want for them. Buying a legit copy on ebay for 200 bucks is completely silly IMO when you could download it and play at your leisure.

Uhhh... why? The game is fucking goddamn awful terrible-like. Seriously one of the worst fighting games ever not-made, or something. It's no Shaq Fu or Rise of the Robots, mind you, but it doesn't even challenge the 25th percentile of fighters.

  3. I used to pirate games. I'd still pirate them if there were more than 3 a year that were worth playing. Putting a CDR in my computer is more effort than it's worth now.

  4. Uhhh... why?
Because I wanted to play it. Now that I know the game sucks, I wouldn't have bought it. I didn't know that back when it was supposed to come out. I'm not arguing the quality of the game, there is no doubt that it's a piece of crap. However, I was looking forward to it, so if it did come out I could have bought it(and likely sold it shortly after).

  5. I'm never 'driven' to piracy, I do it when it conveniences me. I pirated the hell out of the DC (hell, who didn't) so I could decide which games to buy. I have no beef with emulation either, you'd have to be a complete mug to choose Saturn Xmen COTA over the emulated CPS2 version. In the past I used to be strictly originals only but now I don't care, I just buy my favourites. I have a burn of Dracula X Rondo and if I like it enough (i'm yet to play it) i'll buy the real deal. Pissing away money on 'retro' games is no longer my bag and blind purchases are stupid.

  6. Yes. Back when I left myh first college in 1999, I was flat broke and unemployed for about 6 months or so. A friend of mine had about 400 pirated PS games at the time and gave me copies of some of them. I continued doing it until I was at a point where I could buy the games I wanted. I've mostly bought the originals of all the games I pirated since. I do have bootlegs of Tobal 2 and Dracula X, though.

  7. never burned a game, but got some nes roms a long time ago. beyond that i pretty much echo fury's idea, i buy the games that i like and play them, no need to steal, but if i cant find it legally, then my recourse is??

  8. The only thing with piracy, it cheapens the experience even more. Used to be able to play a single game for months, now I need a new fix every week.

  9. Some guy at school gave me (he came to me, I think he wanted to borrow something off me) a pirated copy of Quake 3 for DC. Also gave me PSO. I played them for a few days then threw them away. I also let someone borrow my PS copy of Tony Hawk so he could burn his own copy. A loser is I.

  10. Dracula X was my only one. My rom was so shitty, that I got fed up and bought one instead. Quite a deal too.
