Thread: Your favorite non-Capcom/SNK 2D fighters?

  1. Eternal Champions was an excellent 2D fighter on the Sega CD. Good engine, graphics, game modes, and control. Too bad there were only 3 sound effects in the whole game...

There was supposed to be another Eternal Champions to be released on the Saturn. Sega decided to can the idea because they overestimated the popularity of Virtua Fighter in the US.

  2. #12
Guilty Gear, Breakers Revenge, World Heroes 2, TMNT: TF, Mortal Kombat 2 mainly.

  3. No love for Asuka %120? That makes me sad. A fun fighting game that feels polished (at least the final version did) and is fairly unique from the ones who came before it. I like it more than the majority of the Street Fighter series.

  4. Guilty Gear X2 of course...although it seems a little strange to be rating it as the best second-tier, when it's better or as good as any of the SNK and Capcom games.

Back in the day, I really liked Fighter's History...which of course was pretty much just a blatant rip off of SF2.

The first Killer Instinct was really good in its day too.

What about the 2D version of Virtua Fighter...did it ROXORZ?

  5. I'm thinking mostly of those obscure Neo Geo 2D fighters like Galaxy Fight, Waku Waku 7, World Heroes, Breakers, etc....but what are some other good ones?

The animation is most assuredly lesser than SFIII and a bit below MotW, but it's well above every other 2D fighting game. Especially those you listed earlier.

That said, the obvious choice is GGXX. Great, great game. The more I play, the more I love it, on par with my adoration of SFIII.

  6. Another good 2D fighting game is Power Instinct for the Arcade, SNES, and possibly Genny if memory serves.

It's best known for having that old granny character who throws her dentures at her foes. She was also able to drain other's life force and become a busty, young fighter for a limited time.

    Fun stuff...

  7. Meh, I'll say Mortal Kombat II.

  8. Waku Waku 7 is one of my favorite fighters of all time, and the GG series is damn good too.
To understand man, walk it shoe on other foots.

  9. Weaponlord was pretty cool...

Isn't Groove On Fight part of the Power Instinct series?
