Thread: New Phantasy Star remake screenshots...

  1. The Golden Axe update looks decent. I'm wondering how Streets of Rage will end up. Fantasy Zone looks damn good.

In Phantasy Star, here's hoping Sega changes the random battles and has the monsters visible onscreen before you fight them- most of the time. There should still be a few random ambushes to catch you off guard. I'll wait for an English one, since I don't know enough Japanese for an RPG.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  2. how many of you guys have played PS1... it's a duengon crawl where most of it is one monster width wide... how are you gonna go around that... jump it? lol

i know you are probably talking about the outworld map, it's just strange when people always bring up the fact that they aren't going to play it based on the fact that there is random battles....

  3. I like random battles. In fact, if Kingdom Hearts was an straight RPG instead of an action one, where they actually had to design the annoying levels, I would have loved that game.

It's actually more annoying when you can avoid them and they get you into a fight anyways. You would be like BAH! I could have avoided him!. In RPG's like the Chrono series and Grandia, I just walk right up to all the enemies to fight them for experience points anyways. So I might as well not see them. Plus if you wan't to scab for money or experience to make the next boss battle easier or to buy some stuff, you don't wan't to walk out of the area and then come back in so the enemies respawn. If you can see the enemies, might as well let you kill them right away and make it into an action RPG.

Anyways, is PS1 worth playing even? I mean that game is ancient. I know I'm buying space harrier and maybe Monaco GP( I remember it being crazy but it's damn old). Golden Axe maybe and same with SOR. I'd rather have Golden Axe: the revenge of death adder and a remade SOR3 with SOR2 music and sound effects right away though. Waiting till Golden Axe 2 and 3 comes out is going to be a brutal wait for the revenge of death adder.

These are the only Sega games that should be remade in my opinion.

    Alien Syndrome
    Wonder Boy 3( I think)
    All the Space Harrier
    All the outruns
    All the Sonic games
    PS4
    Sword of Vermillon
    Alien Storm
    Power Drift
    Both afterburners
    Both Galaxy Force games
All the Shinobi's including Shadow Dancer genny version and arcade version

There's more but there's more that I would buy then I thought. let's just say I don't know if Golden Axe, SOR1, and PS1 can hold up anymore. I don't know if Monaco GP can either.Just remake the sequels. I'm pretty sure Super Monac GP is still worth playing again.

  4. Yeah, RPGs have always been about the battles. And then of course the reward is the progression of a story.
If the battles are interesting and challenging, then bring 'em on. As sedition mentioned; the random battles are appropriate for a dungeon crawler.
The problem with a game like Skies Of Arcadia is that the battles were simply mundane and pointless.
..granted, I can't exactly tell you what's so stellar about Phantasy Star's enemy encounters in any relevant context, but 10-14 years ago there was some serious thinking going on as to what items and magic points to expend.

I think you're missing the point. 'Remake' means that, in their original state, people who didn't play and enjoy them back then will be able to ebcause they'll be overhauled.

Phantasy star II is THE game most needing a remake in the world if you ask me.

  6. I never thought it was possible to want a game this much. Sonic Team are doing some of the art, I've been told.

You do realize Galaxy Force 1 and 2 were the same game, with different cabinets, right? Afterburner 2 was a slight revision of Afterburner as well, released a couple months after the original. All it added was the throttle.

Gamespot has some shots of Fantasy Zone now. Looks good. They're appearently sticking very close to the original, and just remaking pretty much the same exact look with polygons. Not too ambitious, but cool nonetheless. Fantasy Zone holds up so well, that's more than enough for me. I hope they make the music sound nice too.

  8. Wow, both Phantasy Star and Fantasy Zone look incredible. Modern yet still firmly rooted in the originals. If they play as good as they look (and as good as the originals did) they shall be mine.

  9. Another 3D Ages game.......Monaco GP

And here are some screens of the Monaco GP remake:

It looks fairly simple since it's based on the classic game. But I have always been very fond of top down racers. Considering the low price point I will may well get this game too. Once I finally get the flip-top to play the other 3D Ages games anyway. Basically I would not mod to play this one but since I am going to for the others I'll consider this one too.
