Thread: New Phantasy Star remake screenshots...

  1. I am not all that interested in PS because I don't like RPGS, but Fantasy Zone, Monoco GP and Golden Axe look really really great! If PS comes to the U.S. I will give it a try though. I just love that Sega is doing this, now Capcom and Konami need jump on board as well.

In AB2, the throttle is a major enhancement. Also added in AB2 is the ability to pick off ground targets in the canyon stage, as well as the Hit Counts bonus. The slight revisions made here mean a lot, IMO.

Now remakes of After Burner II & III would probably be decent. The original AB is kind of "meh". If D3 Ages does these, then they need to support the Ace Combat stick.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

Agreed, but I can't think of a single reason why you would want to do seperate remakes of 1 and 2, when 2 is the same exact game as 1, but with throttle added? It's not like taking away the throttle adds anything. The original Afterburner is the same as just playing AB2 without touching the throttle lever.

Exactly. After Burner 1 is rather needless. I don't see why Sega put that in on their GBA Arcade Gallery- it wouldn't have been too hard for Bits Studios to go whole hog and make it AB2. AB1 feels stripped down.

When there's a bogey or missile coming from behind in 2, it's great to have that throttle. During the ground target stages (8/17) I'll turn it to slow to be able to take out more stuff.

  5. Those Phantasy Star shots look spectacular.
So let me get this straight, these PS remakes are not coming out in the U.S.?
I thought Japanese gamers had a lukewarm response at best to the PS games during the Mega Drive era, and the series experienced most of its success in the States. Why are they getting this treasure(s) and we are left in the dark?

It's unannounced as of yet, so there is still hope.

I'd say it's 50/50. If any of the 3D Ages games come over you'd have to like the odds of Phantasy Star being one of them - since it's such a high profile series and since the translation already exists.

while i doubt that the new version has the exact same script as the original, if they used that old translation again i think i'd shoot myself in the face. it's so godawful 8 bit engrish disaster.

as far as i know sega hasn't come to any decision on the sega ages games. i honestly don't care about their releasing anything here aside from PS, cos importing the rest won't be a big deal. of course, i *am* importing PS and i'll play it, but a US version would be nice.

my hope is sort of that they wait for 2 and 4 to come out and then do a collection. that'd be cool. they might all fit on one DVD, too, as i doubt they have extensive voice or video.

  8. I've already played it in english. I'll be fine playing the remake in japanese. I played Tales of Phantasia remkae in japanese after playing the original in english, and I loved every minute of it. It's not like I won't know what's going on. No biggie.

  9. Those Phantasy Star shots look so yummy. Oh, the memories or playing this on my SMS!! I sure hope they bring this one over. Sure, porting Golden Axe, Fantasy Zone and others might be easier, but Phantasy Star is THE game to get if you love RPGs. BTW, I grew up with random battles in RPGs, so I don't quite understand what some people have against them. In fact, I'd rather have them random than scripted. Don't you just hate RPGs that just take you by the hand as you go through the adventure like some helpless little child??

Oh, and they BETTER keep the original music to Fantasy Zone for the remake. Ever since I played the original I just haven't been able to get that darn tune out of my head, and listening to it on a next-gen console would be nothing short of nostalgia nirvana.

I don't have any problems with them either.

You and me both! In fact, earlier tonight I just started whistling the music for no reason whatsoever. I have not even played Fantasy Zone in a while - it just came out of nowhere. Then my girlfriend told me to stop before it got stuck in her head and now she's been humming it ever since. Muhahaha... That music will never ever leave my brain but I have no complaints. I even used some of the songs on a mixer CD I made. I cannot wait for the re-release and I also hope the music is intact. I wonder if it will be remixed or what...
