I mean not only did they provide great translations and voice acting, they also:

Implemented a new technique that lets the Genesis display 128 colors at once
    Implemented roland DSS(?) sound

I mean they went WAY over and beyond the call of duty in porting this game....
Actually, the PCE version also had RSS sounds too, so it was nothing new added to the Sega CD version.

Anyway, Jeremy Blaustein (who later went on to translate MGS) did some of the translation and supervised the port. The developing team were pretty much involved in Konami's entire Genesis library in one way or another. The director was Yoshinori Sasaki, who also programmed TMNT: Hyperstone Heist and the producer (Tomikazu Kirita) also produced Castlevania: Bloodlines, Contra Hard Corps and Rocket Knight Adventures. The most amazing thing about the Sega version CD is the fact that Hideo Kojima was not directly involved in the conversion (he was busy with Policenauts for the PC98 at the time).

  2. All I can say is, thank the gaming gods for EMUs.
BTW, great post there. I must say I couldn't really get into SotN and the similar ones, eventhough they have some of the greatest game music ever created. Of course, one of the top 5 videogame soundtracks definitely belongs to the original Castlevania game. Who's the composer for that anyway??

Yes, this is a very nice thread. Its great to pay tribute to one of the top 3 greatest game series of all time. I only have one problem with the thread.....and its just a matter of opinion...and it is that...

The N64 Castlevanias are NOT awful games. I never quite understood why so many people hated the N64 Castlevanias. Sure they probably weren't as classy as Symphony of the Night, but I have to admit I HATE HATE HATE the Metroid style Castlevania games. I recognize the Metroid style Vanias for there quality but I will never play any of them over the classical style of Castlevania games. For this reason, and this reason alone, I really enjoyed the N64 Castlevania games. Both of them played just like a good REGULAR Castlevania game but in 3-D. The Nintendo 64 Castlevania games had the classic great mixture of platforming and action. Furthermore, some of the later levels in both C64's were plain old platforming gold! For some reason I can't remember the name of the levels but there was the one level that looked all dark with disappearing crystal like platforms, then there was the lava looking levels, and then not to forget the good old clock tower level...In short, I just think that the Nintendo 64 Castlevania games were fun. They both had there share of great moments that will go down in Castlevania history as well. For every gameplay moment I remember enjoying in past 2-D Castlevania games, I also remember enjoying a part of the N64 Castlevania games. Personally, I think that Castlevania 64 got a bad rap for being 3-D and ugly looking instead of 2-D and pretty I will give you guys the fact that C64 looked like shit, but I will stand by the fact that it was great fun. It almost seems like most people were turned off by the game and never saw through to playing it to the end. This is the only conclusion I can come to because most of C64's best levels were toward the end of the game. Is there anybody else that actually liked the Nintendo 64 Castlevania games?

By the way, the PS2 Castlevania better not play anything like Devil May Cry because I will be very disappointed if it does. I know lots of people liked Devil May Cry but I just couldn't get into it. I would even go as far to say that DMC is trash BUT I think it will piss off too many people.

People get on their high horse because of skeletons on motorcycles and the camera being horrible. God, people need to cut this game a break! The motoskeletons were only in the game for a moment and the camera, while being FAR from perfect, was still easily tolerated. I wish people look at the time that it was released and realize that it was fairly early in the lifecycle of 3d platforming games and for the time, this game was done fairly well. I just recently bought the psuedo-sequel legacy of darkness, and while I haven't played it yet, I hope it will be better than the first 64vania. It was hard for me to find. I actually found it in a pawn shop for 8 bucks. If you have any impressions of legacy, pplease post them for me! Later
I agree with both you guys. I thought Castlevania 64 was pretty good but Legacy of Darkness improved on it totally with better/more accurate jumping added characters and improved graphics. So far I only played the Werewolf parts and I actually got pretty far but my friggin busted ass ghetto 3rd party card erased the data an I was assed out. I'll play it again sometime this summer most definitely and get a better more reliable 1st party Nintendo memory card.
