Well... you're almost right. It's not that Ubi Soft is happier about the PS2 version, its that the PS2 market is what, four or five times larger than the GC market? i attribute that to Ubi Soft seeming more happy about the PS2 version than the GC version. All their advertisements scream PS2 and flash a GC logo at the end, if they even do that.
