Thread: The Official Speed Kings Thread

  1. The Official Speed Kings Thread

Anyone picked this up? Rented it or whatever. Not sure which of you took a look at our latest Gaming Report, but I shed some light on this "under the radar" title.

  2. As (one of) the forum's resident Burnout freak(s), I'm more than a tad interested. In your brief experience, bahn, how are the environments? Framerate? Multiplayer?

    Satoshi Kon: 1963-2010

  3. sub Burnout #1 looking graphics, boring gameplay, but a solid framerate. Sorry didn't get to experience the multi-player said as I could barely stomach how bland and generic the early portions of the game were.

The enviroments are decent. It doesn't have the same photo-realistic flair which Climax London did with Moto GP (also available on Xbox). I know you didn't ask about it, but the riders themselves are pretty flat (especially when compared to the character models featured in MotoGP...I am baffled as to why Speed Kings isn't on par.

Granted one is an arcade-style racer, but Moto GP >>>> Speed Kings

The framerate is smooth; however there's a few pop-up issues here and there. As you start to progess, you're likely to get a bit frustrated as you attempt to skillfully navigate your bike throughout any given level - only to be stopped by incoming traffic which seems to come out of nowhere.

I haven't tried the multiplayer feature, and it's unlikely that I ever will. My friends around here are all fighting game junkies.

There are a lot of elements which are lifted from the Burnout and Road Rash franchises, which as I said in my report is basically a match made in heaven. I have to spend some more time with it to highlight its strong points AND flaws.

I am not too thrilled about the sound either. I believe there's an option to throw in my own tunes. Some of them just make me go "meh".

...I know I made a thread about this not to long ago, but for the moment - this game is the spiritual successor to Road Rash (at least, until EA brings out its own edition which is said to be currently in development).
