Another great thread.
I remember playing tons of Silk Worm on the NES, but didn't remeber it being by Tecmo.

Nice feature Neo, thanks. I didn't know that the arcade Ninja Gaiden was originally a beat-em-up game.
Has anyone played the PCE Ninja Gaiden, and if so what are the differences between it and the NES port? I have that one, and it's one of my favorite games. It's amazing how the truly great games from back then are still great today. The control is so perfect.

Hey Neo or xS...any chance one of you can do a similar thread on Data East? Or have you already done one for them already?
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.
The coolest thing about the arcade Ninja Gaiden game was that on top of the unusually thin joystick was an action button so when you grabbed onto a pole and were hanging you can push it to kick forward while hanging. And wasn't it also 2 player? I was somewhat dissapointed that the NES version wasn't a port but it was still great.
Gutsman, if no one else makes a Data East thread in the near future, I'll do one. The number of Data East games released in the '80s is huge.
Seven Force covered a bunch of their obscure '90s games in various threads. Those are definitely worth checking out.
One point about Ninja Gaiden Trilogy:
The Gaiden II remake found in this release has one GLARING difference with the original NES version. This concerns the stage where Ryu is approaching the Tower of Lhaja (?) during a lightning storm.
In the NES version, the road ahead (in terms of platform placement) is illuminated ONLY when the lightning flashes. In the SNES version, the entire stage is perpetually lit up- KILLING the very thing that makes the stage interesting.
For shame.
Well the game itself is mostly unchanged, but the graphics (especially the cut-scenes) were improved (much better than what they did with NGT), although there's some choppy parallax scrolling. The soundtrack has been changed too (not for the better I might add) and there's a hidden English mode (the translation is totally different from the NES version).Originally posted by cigsthecat

Don't forget the Not-So-Invincible Fire Wheel.

Death never looked so good.
Good question, it seemed to come out of nowhere, but past games don't nessisarily have to indicate that. Tecmo has a strong Arcade background and I imagine it came from there.Originally posted by Nikorasu
Couple of questions:
Firstly - anyone ever play Tecmo world Wrestling on NES?
Secondly just where did Tecmo get their insane 3d skills? When DoA arrived, not mention 2 and 3 it amazed graphically. What 3d games did they do before then to enable them to create such graphics?
