During that scene possibly the most somber song I'd ever heard was also playing.
I concur! That entire scene will stick with me forever due to the absolute perfect blend of imagery and music. And I got to that part at work with a bunch of people around me and it still had this level of impact. I wish I'd experienced it at home in the dark.

  2. The mirror room in Silent Hill 3 is the scariest thing I have ever seen in a videogame. Not to mention it was like 1 in the morning and I was all by myself when I got to it. *shudders*

  3. I've still only managed to make time for the first one but to me, it was the scariest game ever. The only SH Moment I'll mention here is the blue phone. After that little phone call I just wanted to put the controller down and walk away. My roommate and I both agreed that the game was just not right.

  4. The first Silent Hill didn't get a scare on me until I went down into the sewers, that whole scene had me up the wall.

Silent Hill 2 wasn't so much scary for me as 'eerie' but it was just so damn good. I think the creatures were much better designed especially that sort of strange sheen they all had on them, and the lighting was great when you'd suddenly turn and there was one right in front of you.
    Time for a change

  5. Silent Hill 4 isn't even out yet, but the 9 minute trailer if full of disturbing moments. The mass of bodies coming from the ceiling at the end is...something.

  6. The defining moment for me was in the first one where I was looking for half an hour trying to find some item, and it was in a bag that was simply a texture on the shelf that wasn't out of the ordinary at all (that I swear I clicked on several times). What a junk design that was.

That part fucked me up too, with those goddamn things crawling on the walls everywhere...

And I have to agree with those about the beginning of SH1, when you follow the little girl into the alleyway, and suddenly it turns to night, the insane industrial noise/air raid siren stuff starts up (I don't know why, but the air raid siren is just so creepy), the camera starts shaking and panning in all sorts of bizarre directions, you find the broken wheelchair, the blood soaked hospital gurney and walls, the human torso barb-wired to the fence, the demon babies with knives...that freaked me so bad, especially since I always insist on playing SH games like they're meant to be played...alone, in a totally dark roo, at night.

Another wacky thing is running around the streets of Silent Hill only to find most of them walled off or ending in a wrecked chasm...eerie.

SH2 had plenty of creepy things, but overall it was much toned down from the original. It had great atmosphere but nothing really sticks in my had as being memorable, except maybe that reeeealy long staircase in the SH Historical Society building.

Oh, of course, and Pyramid Head going around and raping the other monsters. Pyramid Head is the freakiest creature in the SH series yet.

SH3 really got me good...that part when Heather is in a bathroom, and knocks on a stall door, and something inside knocks back. Still, the stall door won't open, so you turn to walk away, and that's when the door loudly creeks open (I fucking jumped when that happened)...only to reveal an empty, blood-soaked stall.

The mirror room that animegirl mentioned was creepy, too.

i still dont get why people thought this part was scary. mebbe its because i knew "something" was goning to happen but still.......black tenticle shit covering your body......whuppy-do.

i cant say i remember much from the first silent hill. only played thru it once and remembered the game being so goddamned ugly the shit that was supposed to be freaky was too ugly to unnerve me.

played thru the 2nd but that was a long time ago and i cant remember shit.

and well the 3rd......cant remember much from that either. at least not enough to make something stick in my mind.

  9. For me the worst (best?) moment was after the sewers. During the school part of the game, I was terrified by the ghost babies that came out of the walls. Their fucking squeeks were awful. Now I was already pretty shaken up by the sewer monsters that are immune to the radio so to suddenly surface in an amusement park in pitch black was not pleasent. I walk a few paces forward and the radio goes off but I see no monsters which put me on edge. All of a sudden... SQUEEK! I ran out of the room there and then.

And yeah, the SH1 plot guide is complete junk. President Evil was the author iirc and it is fairly pretentious and non-sensical.

The black goo didn't scare me as much as when Heather's reflection stopped moving and just stared straight at you. Also your post contributed nothing to this thread whatsoever.
