Thread: Nintendo's Iwata Slams (kind of) Sony, Sega, Nokia and More...

  1. Nintendo's Iwata Slams (kind of) Sony, Sega, Nokia and More...

    http://ultimategamez.com/newspro/ful...5525465,39117,

I hope this wasn't posted elsewhere, if so I couldn't find it.

Iwata doesn't hold much back while taking shots on everybody. He also is acting quite arrogant with the forthcoming handheld wars we'll see next year.
Maybe he's making these comments cuz he really feels threatened; the new 3D chip for GBA games could be evidence of that.

Nintendo is going through a change. The once kiddyish company represented by Yamauchi is now under new hardcore managment under the defiant Satoru Iwata.

Recently Minagawa spoke to the press about Nintendo's commitment to the videogame industry.

“Our consoles have never lost money,” Minagawa said, “unlike the Dreamcast and MegaDrive which never recorded a profit. People regularly predict our failure in this business, but we're still here, meanwhile Bandai, Matsushita, NEC, and Sega have all gone. We have more experience and can produce characters and games as well as anyone. Xbox has already absorbed substantial loses, and unlike Sony, Microsoft indexes its profits. The GameCube arrived in the American market 18 months after PlayStation 2, next time we'll launch at the same time.”

Later he went on to take an aggressive stance against the soon to be handheld wars.

“Sony and Nokia will launch with nothing and we will already have 60 million Game Boy Advance players. We don't see the growth of the portable market as a threat, but an opportunity. It's allowed us to cut the price of components and release the Game Boy Advance SP.”

Nintendo knows that Sony stands no chance in the handheld industry, as the only reason Sony is number 1 in the console industry, because of a horrible mistake Nintendo made with the cartridge based N64.

Ya man, he's definitely got a pair. I actually have some respect for someone who isn't afraid to speak his mind; even though a smack in the face might do him some good.

    Bias much?

Either way I think it's just empty grand standing on Iwata's part (playing to current and potential stockholders.) They're probably holding meetings right now, about adding functionality to the GBA, to compete with Sony.

  5. I'd love to see Itagaki kick Iwata's ass, tell him that Mario is a piece of shit, and then light up a cigarete.
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

Iwata didn't say the stuff you quoted.

I like this guy. He's got spunk. I'd be like that too if everyone was proclaiming death for my company even though Nintendo has made and is still making boatloads of cash. :kirby:

Actually, I think those words aren't Iwata's as they aren't "quoted", but the writers own input in this story.
However, your assessment is probably right on the money.

  9. My oops, Sorry bad habbit consider it changed.
