Well, I guess it's safe to spill the beans.
It's official, Milla Jovovich has been cast as the lead in Kurt Wimmer's UltraViolet. Variety unloaded the news, news we've been sitting on, in an article about this film as well as her next foray into the world of cinematic mediocrity known as Resident Evil.
Milla will play a vampire with no shortage of ass-kicking potential who's forced into protecting a young boy amidst the tumult of war in the not-too-distant future and from what we've been told, Kurt's seriously springboarding into much more elaborate action for his follow-up to the beloved Equilibrium. Expect no shortage of coolness, but it's a good while away before the film hit screens. Milla's apparently really getting into shape, and the role.
Here's a word from Kurt himself about the project, a CHUD.com exclusive:
"Yes, it's true, we have cast Milla. Though shooting's a ways off, with all the prep necessary for this film, we've started physical training with her already so we can hit the beach at a sprint. Acting ability was always a given but I was relieved to find that she has excellent fundamental kicking and punching skills as well as a basic coordination that's allowing her to pick up sword and kali-stick basics along with wu shu isometric forms relatively easily. Though it's sometimes also the case with men, I think it's even more common with women that no matter how much training you give them, you'll never be able to convincingly transform them, both in terms of physicality and in terms of attitude, into warriors. It's tricky business - Linda H. Sigourney, maybe a few others - the list of success isn't very long. But when I watch the tapes of our sessions with Milla, sword arced over her head, I can see in her eyes - she's a killer."
Honestly, I'm not a fan of Milla. Well, aside from the natural Kuffs spawned male impulses to carry her off to my cave. She's talented, but so far there hasn't been a role where I stood back and said "OK, I know why she's getting these big gigs... aside from the Besson stuff, which made perfect nepotistic sense.".
This should do it. If Kurt's sold, why shouldn't we be?
