Thread: Aliens Vs Predator

  1. Alien 3 and Ressurection didnt blow They were good movies on their own, each different from another. I actually prefer them that way, instead of just being clones of Aliens. Each had unique style too.

  2. I agree with Despair. Alien 3 had a unique atmosphere, prison with Runner Alien. Alien Resurrection’s atmosphere was different from all the other Alien movies but gave us a new 20th century atmosphere. Resurrection had intelligent Aliens, cloned Ripley and Alien/Human Hybrid.

  3. "Whatever the case may be, this looks to be a smart move by the studio to reinvigorate the two brands."

So why did they hire Anderson then?? @_@
I'm sorry, but Paul W.S. Anderson is a lousy director and an even worse writer.

The story sounds like a bad videogame turned movie, where every character is a 2-dimensional cliche. This is the kind of movie they shouldn't make unless they can get everything right. The original script sounded so much better too, but it would've probably cost the studio some $200 million.

BTW, Lance Henrikson (sp?) probably won't be cast, coz he's not European. I guess they only have enough money on this production to hire Stan Winston (is he even signed to do the creature FX??) and pay only the lead for her working visa.

  4. Do you know that Winston havent even worked on Alien 3 &4, it was other FX team, using Winston designs, and some of models/suits.

Henriken can be potentially cast, he's not very expensive and does great chracter work, plus he appeared in other Aliend franchise films, plus he would have no problem working in Europe. We shall see on that.

Anderson is NOT a bad director, and I enjoyed ALL of his movies, even Shopping he did with Jude Law. He has a cool style, and I think too many people too eager to call him a hack, just because they dont like his films. Whatever.

  5. Paul Anderson's movies are very good. I espically liked Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil, but the plot seems off. They should just use the PC game of Aliens Vs Predator 2 for the plot.

  6. Paul WS Anderson is no a bad TECHNICAL director. He knows how to handle FX well. But his story-telling abilities are lame and often he ruins potentially good movies by not giving characters room for development. You need certain scenes to have the audience connect with the characters, so when something bad happens to them or are in a dangerous situation, you fear for them and want them to succeed (even if they don't). The Kurt Russel character in Soldier is a good example. Here's a character that needed to go through a wide gama of emotions he wasn't used to. Instead, he's turned into a bad terminator clone. Its nobody's fault but Anderson's there.

    Alien 3 rocked.

    That is all.

  8. I liked Kurt Russel in Soldier. For all, you cant blame director for the scrip shortcomings, if it wasnt him writing the script. I think Russel character in Soldier was decent, and so what if he didnt had ton of dialog, and only spoke a few lines here and there. Thats how his character was supposed to me, human machine trained for one purpose only - fighting, and when he gets into the civilian world after he thrown out because they got a better toys, he continues function in the only way he knows how, but with time slowly becomes more human like.

As for RE I dont think Anderson rendetion of the story was bad at all, and again it was definately better than Romero's initial writeup. And film did suffer alot of editing, where if it was released in original cut, it would have been much gorier(something that alot of viewers blame the film is lack of blood).

I think Anderson can do an adequate job on AVP, as it was stated he is good SFX director, and film like AVP will rely heavily on special fx.

Agreed. They're releasing a 9-disc Alien set with the director's cut of Alien 3 now... I just really hope they release it seperately...

  10. Here's some more news on the movie;
    http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808496110

Premise: Set in the early 21st century (ie, now), this movie follows a team of drillers, scientists and archaeologists led by a billionaire industrialist (Henriksen) who travel to Antarctica to investigate ancient pyramid ruins buried deep beneath the ice which predate those in Egypt and Mexico, suggesting they were once the home of a great empire that ruled over the Earth first. When they finally reach one of the pyramids, however, they discover human skeletons and fossilized remains of alien creatures that appear to hug faces and burst out of chests (wink wink), along with evidence that such aliens may still be alive somewhere in the ruins. The danger below them is frightening, but what the scientists also don't know is that something as dangerous lurks above them, happy to have had someone open up the Aliens uncovered: Predators.
