Thread: Best/Worst in character design

  1. Best/Worst in character design

Dave Smith at gamers.com put together his list of the best and worst in gaming character design. I think he's mostly on the money, but maybe too harsh on the Tokimeki Girls...

  2. I said it on Neomega and I'll say it here, thay are harsh on Ratchet and Clank. Sure, there are plenty of hatered for them here on TNL too, but I liked the designs in that game, and they worked well for space setting of the game.

  3. good article. i would have replaced ratchet and clank with jak and dexter for bad design, though. didn't naughty dog admit that jak was designed almost entirely by focus group? yuck./

  4. I don't think you could be hard enough on either Rachet and Clank or Jak and Daxter. Let's throw Blink on that pile as well.

I nominate the whole Puchout!! series for examples of kick-ass character designs. King Hippo rox.

  5. Describing Plok as the epitome of generic side-scrollers? Idiot.
It's still one of the most colourful and inventive platform games ever made. And Plok himself is a fab character

  6. Most of what's there is right, but there'salot of other stuff I'd mention over what was there. Like Phillia wasn't as good as any character in Tales of Phantasia, all of whom should be on the list. And I'd have liked to see Klayman mentioned as well, as well as Grave from GunGrave, and Hotsuma. Dammit, there's alot they missed, I'm just going to stop thinking about it.

  7. Yeah, I actually like Plok too. Bonk is another great design.

  8. Plok is cool. And as my roommate says, Plok is Plok.

    (He's wise.)

Fun article by the Rev., too.

  9. Interplay never had a "hit" with Earthworm Jim. Playmates published EWJ1 and 2. Interplay acquired Shiny after EWJ1 released but during the development of EWJ2. Playmates had a previous contract with Shiny to do 2 so they had to wrap it up before moving on. Interplay's responsible for publishing EWJ:SE for SegaCD (a little too late, IMO) and the craptacular EWJ3D for N64 (actually Take2 bought the publishing rights) and PS1.

Could be considered useless facts but facts none the less.

  10. Klonoa is one of my favorite character designs.
It's all about the New York Islanders!!!
