Wow, I've actually LOLed at a joke in this game. Thats pretty rare to happen in any game. I didnt even mind the Titanic reference.

Im lovin the game more and more. The overall story may be somewhat generic or cliche or whatever you want to call it, but it has plenty of personality and good story telling. This game is freakin awesome, period.

And the battles....oh the battles...I thought battles that were engaging and fun in RPGs were outlawed?

people have liked far more cliched plots, and the character's are actually pretty well fleshed out and consistently written, im enjoying it, havent had much time to get far lately, but what i played i really enjoyed

EDIT: and i also dont hate the main guy..that hasnt happend in a j-rpg since zidane in ff9.

Lloyd's a dope, but a lovable, well-intentioned dope. And...*gasp*...he does become a better thinker as the game goes on (at least in the skits). Character growth that comes naturally, instead of in forced pivotal plot points? Nice.

I got this game five days ago, love the Tales series, and haven't played it yet.
What the hell is wrong with me?

I'm about 15 hours into it and I must say I haven't been sucked into an RPG like this in a long time. I end up playing it every night for a couple of hours with my brother, so it's good times.

Tales of Symphonia adds for the first time a new replay system that rewards players for playing it again. On subsequent plays, you will be rewarded with new story elelements, new sub-plots, and new playable characters. It is beleived that this will be tied into the grading system (introduced in ToD2). The grading system judges your battle skill in a way not tied to just how much battling and leveling you do. So there are incentives to get better at the game and play again and again: something usually missing from the RPG genre.

Does anyone know if the new subplots and character thing still holds true? This is the only place I've ever seen it mentioned.

I'm almost finished now, and I've really enjoyed it. I'd even go so far as to say it's my best purchase in the past year.

Yeah, I heard the second play through is still quite different, but I haven't beaten the US one yet myself. The only thing I know they cut out is that there's no longer a sound test after you beat the game in the US version. Which is gay.

Yes, definately. It's distant and you won't see the conncection right away, but it's definately there. I don't know if this spoils anything but it's a distant prequel

I'd say the connection is similar to the Phantasy Star games. You might not recognize alot of the locations, but there is overlap and things that bring the stories together.
