Thread: The Official Tales of Symphonia Thread

  1. I have a question for the veteran players.

On most of the skills you get in the game, some are labeled "technical", and some are labeled "strike". I assume that you learn the moves according to which direction the meter is going. Can you ever learn the skills of the other type, or are you stuck with the skill that you learned once you passed the threshold?

You can change at any time because learning a lot of the T or S skills ar based on the base level 1 skills, like demon fang or pow hammer etc. So you simply need to "forget" (using the command in the tech menu) to learn the T or S type version of the move.

I was having a heck of a time figuring out how to make the move in blue in my menu active, for instance I had double demon fang in blue for a long time, but it wouldn't unlock, so I had to forget fierce demon fang (level 2 S type) to learn double demon fang (level 2 T type)...

Many of the moves will have an equal variant for both tech types, but some only have level 3s in either T or S, and some don't rely on a tech type at all and are neutral...

I have most of my characters in T type, don't know why, just that the EX skillz seem to be better for their characters leaning towards T. You can still mix and match S and T EX skillz, just have more of the one you want to lean towards and also using the Strike Ring (just picked it up) and I'm assuming there is a Technical Ring as well...this will help you lean towards one or the other...

  3. I finished the game last night. I am curious about a few things in the ending though, so if anyone else who's finished it could hit me up on AIM, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I did some searching yesterday and found this. Just a warning to everyone, spoilers for the game abound in that thread. It is quite a laugh though, and when you hit page eight or nine you get to a very good explanation on how ToS and ToP are connected to each other.

Edit: Frog, is was just pointed out to me from a questionable source that the Casino had games in it in the Japanese version. Is this true?

Yes, there are Technical Rings, I had 2, but I only needed one for Genis, since I found an array of his Technicals better then the S-Types. Just finished it this morning, was locked in my room since noon yesterday, bout 19 hours. Great game, its been a while that I've bought something I really want to finish at 100%.

    /edit/ oops, forgot about Gaiden.

  5. I <3 this game!!! Great battle system and the plot isn't sucking! The whole two worlds thing, giving and taking was great, and I'm even a little confused as to somethings (Just got to Mizoho) as to who is the actual enemy. So the game went from a generic plot (Which resembled FFX to all hell) to something very good. I love this game.

The battle system makes me want Star Ocean as well, god I can't wait for that. It's nice to have an excuse to use the WaveBird! I've been kinda speeding through it so I know I'm also missing a lot from the battle system.

This game. Owns. Game of the year for the GameCube *Laughter ensues*

  6. Going through my second play on hard this time, and without knowing about it I went along the north bridge, and I must say the way they did that is actually quite awesome. It's almost nice to get lost and a little confused on a second play through of a game. I also wonder about the new sub-plots characters etc people speak of.

Who here is playing through the game a 3rd or higher time?

  7. I seen in an ad some characters dressed in alternate clothes after winning a battle. Do you get extra outfits as you go along, or is different clothes part of some quest segment?

Well I know sometimes the characters reflect what equipment you have equipped...but there are hidden costumes as well...one of them has a Klonoa costume if you have a certain title activated...

They're all based on the titles. In the old games Titles were just something you collected, but now they actually affect stats, and some come with costumes and stuff.

  10. The Klonoa Costume is awsome. THat's all I have to say about that.
