Thread: The Official Tales of Symphonia Thread

  1. Fifty hours and still no problems. Weird.
    A is for action

  2. T~S & Nomi, that's a relief. I thought my GCN was toast.

  3. Red, I've never had that happen, and I've more than doubled the fifty hours Eightbit mentions. Then again, this is really the first game I've played on my cube, so I'm sure that's a factor as well.
    "Tick-tock"

  4. Me too, no problems and I leave it running most of the time, if I have to run out, I just leave it on cause then I can just pickup and go...

I get a slight pause when I kill bosses, but I'm assuming that is part of the game...
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"

  5. Damn, does this game ever end? Every time I think its over, something else pops up, its insane.

Its further insane by the fact that it doesnt feel like they are just dragging out the story to increase the clock. Every hour spent is an hour of quality time with the game. Its just simply fantastic. Its quickly moving into the ranks of my personal top three RPG's of all time.

  6. I think it's an above average RPG, too, but I don't like the trite plot, blurry graphics, lack of FMVs, and menu system.

  7. I thinkt he bluriness is awesome, it's just a cool added effect I've always seen it as purposeful. Trite plot? Hrm.

Lack of FMVs, now THAT dissapointed me. I was expecting some awesome anime goodness from the game.

    Menu system is ok..

Anyways that's my retort. I don't think it'll match when I get Star Ocean Till End of Time, and Phantom Brave both on September First (I Really can't wait.)

  8. Although the two world story is unique to Tales, wasn't it already done in other Tales games? Or is it just expected to be a trademark of the series?

The fogging in the overworld and blurriness especially during realtime cutscenes bothered me. At times I felt like I was playing without my glasses.

The menus are okay, but it took a good 5 hours before I had memorized the location of everything. I still don't agree that the multiplayer control switch should've been grouped under the Tech category. Also, Beyond Good & Evil's menus proved that for console games, a circular menu layout is superior to the rectangular/linear style. Linear menus are more applicable to PCs, where you move the cursor with a mouse and keyboard instead of a control stick.

Overall though, ToS went beyond my expectations. I loved the characters, art, & battle system. Best game on GCN.

It was done in Tales of Eternia before, but it was completely different. In ToE they were actually different planets in space, just very close together. One was alien and futuristic, and the other primitive. Here they were more like alternate dimensions.

  10. Soo...I'm wondering what everyone's highest grade is seeing as how (with the grade bonus from game completion) I just got 22.65 which is a hell of a lot. Anyone top that?
