Thread: Guts. to buy, or not to buy.

  1. I have no problem with them doing this, I just always check the disc to make sure a clerk hasn't taken it home and scratched it, and if a case is all smashed up I'll ask for a new one. They never give me a hard time or anything, since it can hardly be considered anal to not feel like buying mangled merchandise. But in the end if everything's fine, I'll have forgotten it was gutted before I even get it home. No biggie.

  2. I generally try to avoid them, when I am at EB and I ask for a game if they don't have it other then the display I will pass... that and the reshrinkwrapped games. If it is something I really want (or hard to get) and is in excellent condition still I will get it but otherwise I won't.

  3. Gutting sucks, period. I say stores should sacrifice one single copy. This is kept on hand always to display/demo/loan to employees/whatever. Or else use the damn display cases most get before the game releases (to help promote "Presales"). It is illegal to sell an opened item as new after all.

so far hes sold a couple of them and hes always sold them at 50% off
This I have yet to see. At all the EB and Gamestop stores I've been to, the manager and employees sell gutted games like new and are very surprised indeed if you make an observation about the game's condition. Hell, they act offended when I ask to see a used CD before buying it, as though I'm SUPPOSED to buy a game that looks like it was owned by a DJ.

I think that if they're going to sell gutted games at full price, then they shouldn't complain about people wanting a sealed copy. If that many game boxes are stolen, don't make the average, honest consumer pay the price. Change your display technique. You'd save far more money in the long run by making the change than by selling all those boxless CDs for half price.

Despite what anyone else says I'm against it.

I find enjoyment from taking the plastic wrap off myself it't like opening a present and I don't want someone else doing it and ruining my fun.

And for some reason everytime a buy a game it happens to be the last one and yes I have done it but now I order online and places with locked display cases like Target.

So I'm sure you guys would not mind having your DVD Movies and CDs gutted also huh?

  6. Here's my take on it:

If I open a new sealed copy, the store says it's used.

If the store opened a new sealed copy, it should have a used price.

  7. I usually try to find games at retail stores like Wal-Mart or Target. The local Software Etc leaves the display cases unshrinkwrapped and there's been a number of times I've opened a RPG case and found the extras (stickers, cards) missing. If it's a bargain game I'm picking up on impulse, I'm not picky, if I'm buying a game I waited several months for, I want it in good condition.

I've pretty much stopped buying used games at one store since they don't have the used games out to see, instead there's a display box and you get to guess if the game you are buying is complete, beaten up, etc. *-neo

    there ya go.

the gamestop near my place is super cool about gutted games. the gutted games are usually the last copy of that game. every last copy (gutted) is sold for around $19.99 for games more than six months old, and $29.99 for newer games. gutted copies are never sold for the full price.

i used to be anal about buying gutted copies for three main reasons:
    1) the boxes get fucked up by other customers and workers
    2) the instruction booklet gets fucked up by customers and workers
    3) i want to open the shrink myself
i grew out of this, and i don't mind gutted games anymore, as long as the manual and disc are in perfect shape. what's even better is that the gamestop near me tapes the cases shut, so people can't fuck up the manuals.

  9. Hell, they act offended when I ask to see a used CD before buying it, as though I'm SUPPOSED to buy a game that looks like it was owned by a DJ

I don't have anything helpful to add to this thread, I just thought that quote was rather funny.

i didnt say the gutted games we did this with it was a response to the games who were gutted and then had their cases stolen by very stupid people
