I agree with Despair about Eternal Darkness. It was disturbing how badly some people hyped that game here at TNL.
Like most video game movies, this one probably won't even come out but it would be interesting if it did.
I never said that the ED story was bad, I enjoyed it alot, and just as Bio said, Sanity effects were very cinematic, but didnt add much to the gameplay at all.
I am looking forward ED2, and hope that developers will tighten weak areas like combat and difficulty, and make the game more enjoyable.

This is great news, after beating the game I had wondered how they could make a movie, would they do it all in flashback, or flash back and forth between alex and the book. How would they deal with the actual book, would they do the teleporting to another dimension thing that every charcter did when they first got the book, or will they even come in contact with the book at all? What about magik spells, will they follow the same format? Will there be insanity effects that fuck with the movie audience's head?
But most imortantly, which god alignment rune will Pious choose?
As for the game, I thought it was fun, and had a great story, but the lack of enemy varity, level repetition (which was okay, given the story line), and lame ass, boring, pathetically stupid puzzles turned the game into a chore *cough*9 Point Ring of Power*cough*. Oh, and the magic spells made the game a breeze.
I really enjoyed the game alot
one of my 10 favorite from last year so a movie done right really has me excited
hell i want there to be an ED2
like i said I loved the game so im all for a sequel and a movie
Then at least RE is equal in some way.Originally posted by Despair
I for one didnt find it scarry at all. That's what happens when the character you control moves with more grace then a parapalegic. Besides, Silent Hill is played in the exact same way, only without location specific damage and your character has hampered reflexes. It was faster moving game, which relied on action. That's because RE already had you run from one end of the map to the other fifteen billion times, so even if you had to repeat some long drawn out hunt you wouldn't have noticed.Plus the fact that the game FORCED you to go through exactly the same long event TWICE(something that even RE with its well known backtracking moments havent done), made it less entertaining. It could be all new story done in the same style, or a re-telling of ED.Originally posted by Regus

It would've been more interesting if there had been a twenty minute search through multiple puzzles to find a car battery hidden in a statue, while being completely unable to take one out of the many cars parked in one of the garages. As for the game, I thought it was fun, and had a great story, but the lack of enemy varity, level repetition (which was okay, given the story line), and lame ass, boring, pathetically stupid puzzles turned the game into a chore *cough*9 Point Ring of Power*cough*.
Meh.
Another videogame based movie to throw into the fire. Theres like 80 zillion being made, I wonder how many will actually make it out(Hopefully none). At least Despair gets the DMC movie he so wants.
I love when I can go into a thread a predict the opinions of all the board members.
Eternal Darkness was an OK game. I wouldn't have been so disappointed with it had IGN not called it one of the best games ever. It did have a really good story though, so I'm thinking that this movie could work out well.
But the gameplay was...lacking. Meh.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.
If this game was done by Capcom and called "Devil May Cry," you'd be finding a way to rationalize everything that's wrong with it instead fo using it as an excuse to dislike it.Originally posted by Despair
How much different forom "stale" as called it, gameplay of RE or SH it really was? I for one didnt find it scarry at all. It was faster moving game, which relied on action. But with recharging magic, fighting monsters became extremely easy, and I never really felt in danger of dying, since I could always cast protection and healing spells. Plus the fact that the game FORCED you to go through exactly the same long event TWICE(something that even RE with its well known backtracking moments havent done), made it less entertaining. Sanity was more of a gimmick, than something that made the game better.
The ONLY gripe you have with Eternal Darkness is that it's on a Nintendo system...the rest is made up.
I'm kind of hesitant on both Metroid and Eternal Darkness being made into movies because of the bad luck these game related movies bring.
I hope it turns out good though, I liked Eternal Darkness alot. TNL did sort of got a bit crazy with hyping it but it turned out solid.
It wasn't as scary as RE but it creeped me the fuck out many times. The sanity effects I thought were a bit more than a gimmick as you all say because it directly affects gameplay in different ways.
Now this was STUPID. I like you, but.....!!!!!!Originally posted by Captain Vegetable

Be ED on ANY system, it wouldnt have been a GREAT game in its present state. Being on Cube got nothing to do with me being somewhat dissapointed with it.
