The game deserves props for making me think a giant boss battle was about to ensue, and then quickly killing my character like he was some worthless NPC.
Well done!
I can over look all the other run of the mill puzzles in the game, but you can not deny that the last puzzle when you had to turn on the the 9 point ring of power FOR THE SECOND TIME was unbelievably awful, repetitive, and unnecessary. You're right. It would've been more interesting if there had been a twenty minute search through multiple puzzles to find a car battery hidden in a statue, while being completely unable to take one out of the many cars parked in one of the garages.
HA!The ONLY gripe you have with Eternal Darkness is that it's on a Nintendo system...the rest is made up.
You can't deny the man on some of his points.
When you get down to the core gameplay, it's all the same. How much different forom "stale" as called it, gameplay of RE or SH it really was?
I agree.I for one didnt find it scarry at all.
Once again, this is true. The Magik spells really did make the game easy. I played through the entire game, and only died during the chapters before I aquired the healing spells, and the only time I saw the sanity effects was when I FORCED them to occur on purpose. It was faster moving game, which relied on action. But with recharging magic, fighting monsters became extremely easy, and I never really felt in danger of dying, since I could always cast protection and healing spells.
I agree %100, that sequence was a joke.Plus the fact that the game FORCED you to go through exactly the same long event TWICE(something that even RE with its well known backtracking moments havent done), made it less entertaining.
Like I said before, Sanity effects had little to no bearing on me when I played the game since I always keeped my meter filled, because of the magik spells. And even when I did start to slip, it's not like the effects did anything to game, except tilt the camera, oh wow. The effects were just tossed in for fun, that's it.Sanity was more of a gimmick, than something that made the game better.

Well that's like, your opinion, man.

*cough*9 Point Ring of Power*cough*.This was really the only true problem I had with the game. The other complaints I had (although quite a bit more minor) were that I had to play through 3 times to see the whole story (while the actual game changed VERY little) and...Originally posted by Regus

But, for awhile, this was BY FAR my favorite Gamecube game.Originally posted by Regus

It was disturbing how badly some people hyped that game here at TNL.Yeah, I'll take at least some of the blame for that.Originally posted by Will
TNL did sort of got a bit crazy with hyping it

I just played for an hour or so, and GOD DAMN! It is SOOOOOOOOOOO sweet. In wrestling terms, it is THAT DAMN GOOD! I would SO buy a Gamecube just for this. The only problem is, it seems like it will be impossible to play in the daytime, as it's a bit of a dark game, and it doesn't like it when that no good SUN glares on the TV.

Now this was STUPID. I like you, but.....!!!!!!
Be ED on ANY system, it wouldnt have been a GREAT game in its present state. Being on Cube got nothing to do with me being somewhat dissapointed with it.
I'll admit that having to do it a second time made it as stupid as an RE puzzle (although still more sensical), but I'm willing to overlook a single bad area in an otherwise excellent game. If the game had been mediocre or crap up to that point then it would've been the final straw, but it wasn't so it wasn't.Originally posted by Regus

ED was almost GotY, but the video compression was terrible.Originally posted by Captain Vegetable
I have no idea what the Hell you're talk...wait a minute, yes I do. I nearly forgot who I was talking to.
Reguardless of how excellent Nintendo preforms, you'll never admit to it. Eternal Darkness was a solid game in all areas. That fact that you can't simply enjoy it, and need to make reasons up to not like it is sad.
Yeah it wasn't too hot but did it affect your Game Of The Year nomination that much?
