Thread: Sonic Robo Blast 2 (Sonic fan game)

  1. Dled it fine but I can't get the joystick option to run. I followed the instructions in the manual and got zippo. Anyone got their gamepad to run?

  2. Wow, this is really impressive. I've only tooled around for a few minutes but it looks great so far. One complaint is that the double-jump dash thingy is hard to control, and hopping on enemies isn't as precise as I'd like it to be.

Still and all, an amazing piece of work.

    James

  3. Bah, the game looks too damn good now, so my computer doesn't run it as well anymore.
I wonder if the Mario and Christmas levels from past demos are included in here...

  4. A great idea, but the control sucks. It's way too hard to aim properly without moving really slowly, which kinda takes away the point of playing as Sonic. People complained about the "track" Sonic ran on during the Adventure games but it was there to give a level of control during the speed, something this game lacks.

I used FPS style controls as they allowed for the fastest method of precise turning, but it's missing something. Maybe the homing dash is what's needed to really shoot this game up, I do really miss its presence. Otherwise it's excellent and I fully commend the team for making it, but let's say I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it.

Oh, and something seriously wrong with the graphics engine. There's no reason whatsoever as to why running a game on such an ancient engine in 800x600 or 1024x768 should give me such huge framerate problems. I have to play in 640x480 in order to get a constant beautiful framerate (and it is damn nice), but that's ridiculous.

    My gamepad works just fine.

Well, Doom wasn't really meant to render staircases with insane amounts of steps that exist solely to make it look like a sloped surface.

There's a cheat for homing, actually. homing 1 in the console, I think. Not exactly like SA's homing, as it locks on to enemies behind and above you as well as below and in front, but it's still nice. If they fixed it up, it'd be great. If you beat the game, you unlock a "Adventure Test Level" which has homing on by default, and the "ring toss" button allows you to do that ring-dash from SA.

  6. Finally tried this, quite an impressive fan project. I will agree with a keyboard the control can be a bit annoying, but I'm still very impressed with all their work that went into it. As I'm playing it, I'm reminded that Sonic should be able to use some of the Doom weapons though.
