Valve has revealed that the massively anticipated FPS epic Half-Life 2 will contain two-player co-operative mode intertwined with the main game, essentially delivering two games in one.

Making use of the team behind the acclaimed Sven Co-Op mod for the original Half-Life, Valve will be working with the Sven team to incorporate the mode into the game proper.

"The team and I are currently working to finish the project design so we can immediately push forward once we get our hands on the SDK" said Sven Viking, SC Team Leader. "We really feel that with Half-Life 2, we will be able to take co-operative gameplay to the next level."

In a press release, the outfit continues, “Sven Co-op for Half-Life 2 will benefit not only from Half-Life 2’s highly advanced engine, greater volume of content and extensive feature set, but also from new and innovative gameplay resulting from four years of experience with the genre. Among the new features will be the ability for mapmakers to create their own game modes, and features to make gameplay more rewarding.”

Good news all round as Half-Life 2 gets bigger and better and the modding community continues to make its valuable presence felt at the highest levels of PC gaming.

I wonder what that says about scripted sequences. If the whole game is playable co-op, and certain sequences permanently deform a level or area deeming it unpassible from the other side, both players will have to be on the other side first.

They'd probably change the portions of levels for co-op's sake, so nothing like that will happen.

Then why are you posting in this thread?

Yeah, it could force them to change scripted events -- but we'll how much it's changed when we get the game. There's no sense in kvetching about it til the game gets here or we have proof that it's broken or something.
