Thread: What the fuck happened to TV?

  1. What the fuck happened to TV?

Was there a radical change in program editing/censoring? I remember a few years back when South Park devoted a episode to the word "shit", and now South Park: The Movie is playing uncut for a few nights.

It's not just South Park ethier, I guess there's a exception to program nudity for puppets, as Crank Yankers uses it alot (something disturbing about a 80 year old nude puppet). Nudity seems to have been relaxed too, as I've seen topless women in programs on TNN and The History Channel.

Not complaining about any of this, as I'm not a fan of censorship but TV has changed quite a bit in just a few years. *-neo

  2. What I think is kinda disturbing is the sexuality geared towards kids. Some examples: in the Cat in the Hat trailer, he grabs a photo of some lady, and his hat erects. The punchline is that it's a pic of the mom of the kid who's standing next to him. Cock jokes, in a kids movie. And what the fuck where they thinking with the new Rugrats movie title- Rugrats Gone Wild? So some 7 year old is supposed to want to see the movie more because the title is yanked from his favorite titty vid? Now I could see the point in the Cat in the Hat joke if the defense is that they want to draw in a big a crowd as possible, but I think the Rugrats thing sucks.

  3. The Rugrats are in a forest starring with the wild-thornberries. Gone Wild is a sensible title, and I never made the connection with the other tapes until you brought it up. I'd only call it a coincidence.

Also, sexual humor has always been directed at kids. Kids understand that men like pretty women. Which is why you have Elmer Fudd going bug-eyed at the site of a cross-dressing rabbit and the spinning - ties and other such double takes that attempt to show that in a funny way. That's why the cat's hat grows instead of, say, Him standing right next to the mom with his penis suddenly extending and jabbing the mother in the side. One is a crude joke for teens. One is a simple one for the kiddies.

As for what neoalphazero is wondering about. It is interesting. Its just sort of crept up on me, as I don't watch much television, and what I do watch isn't the sort of thing I would notice it in. I suppose that if they label it, and put it late at night, they can do nearly anything on cable now.

  4. Yeah I think the FCC said explicit material can be shown after midnight but I cannot find the ruling or announcement or whatever it was on any news sites. I think it might be old news now.

What the hell? On cable or what?

  6. On comedy central. If you're on the west coast, its coming on again at 1 AM, I believe.

  7. Around 1 in the morning, several years back, I did a double take while watching Jacob's Ladder because they showed nudity...I was like :whoa: .This wasn't even on cable tv either, just regular t.v

That's when I knew things were changing.

  8. I was just talking about that yesterday, about Comedy Central doing the South Park movie and the 'shit' episode. 'Shit' is one thing, but 'shut your fucking face uncle fucker'? Wow.

MTV had a documentary-type show about breast implants too, that followed a few girls, showing them topless on many occasions. Given the nature of the show, and them showing the surgery in grusome detail and whatnot, it the MTV show wasn't all that shocking, but still, it was the first time I had seen nudity on cable, so it still seemed amazing. Anyway, not that I'm against it at all, I don't like cencorship either.
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  9. I watched the South Park movie on the 4th... I was suprised, but also very pleased.

Now where's my basic cable Playboy channel!

  10. I'm glad more channels are getting a set of nuts to show this stuff. With all the Vchips these days in TVs theres no reason why a responsable parent couldnt get a TV with one.
I see no reason why we cant watch and hear anything on TV. Well, besides hardcore porn I guess.
I think the US is one the the strictest TV nations in the world. Have you ever seen some of the stuff they can watch in other countries!?
