Then he sucks.
I think CV is expecting Ocelot from MGS2's timeline to get ahold of a time machine and send a Metal Gear Rhodan back in time for Big Boss to terminate Snake in the 1960's so that the events in MGS will have never occurred.Originally posted by 88mph
Its taking place in the 1960's, you dumb bastard.
What do you expect?

Bite my ass you sorry son-of-a-bitch. It's not a matter of what I "expect." I know it takes place in the sixties, asshole, but BOTH previous MGS games take place in the present, and as far as I can tell, the designs for both Metal Gears are far off from actually being achieved...belly-up goes your stupid argument, moron. If they can make an outrageous design for the present day story arc, then they can do better than a freaking tank in the 1960's.Originally posted by 88mph

Mild nitpick, but the Metal Gear games (starting from the MSX original up until Sons of Liberty) always took place in the near future (there's at least a seven to nine year difference between the year of each game's release and their fictional setting).Originally posted by Captain Vegetable

I still believe it's a bit early to diss the MGS3 tank. There's probably more than meets the eye here so to say.
Anyway, it turns out that this story was false after all. The guy who created sound clip fessed up.
This still doesn't diminish my argument. There will be nothing even close to Metal Gear Ray in seven to nine years from now.Originally posted by Johnny Undaunted

Nevertheless, have more faith in Kojima. His games are usually filled with cool mechs (from the Snatchers to the EMPS suits in Policenauts to the various Metal Gears including Gillian's sidekick).Originally posted by Captain Vegetable

I've decided Johnny Undaunted's knowledge of all things Metal Gear and other Kojima games is too uncanny, that he is in fact actually Hideo Kojima posting to TNL.
And I'm going to say that I don't think we'll be playing as anyone other than Big Boss for this outing. I do hope they open the game with Solid Snake explaining a bit of what's happened post-MGS2, or why we're experiencing Big Boss's story. I feel it's a bit odd to call the game MGS 3 if it's going to be a prequel 100% of the time (although Kojima has thought of weirder things, like the idea to name what was MGS2 as MGS3, starting on Big Shell with the tanker portion as MGS2). Alright I'm done rambling, for now.

Actually, Kojima never actually meant to call MGS2 "MGSIII". He did so in an internal pre-production trailer to get his staff wondering "What happened with MGS2?".
Originally, Kojima had this idea, that after Metal Gear Solid 1 was released, the next game to be released to stores would be called Metal Gear Solid 3.
The event of what would have been Metal Gear Solid 2 would have been the tanker portion of what Sons of Liberty actually was. As for the rest of the idea, I'm not sure how he was planning to flesh it out.
If you check out the Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 (which you can get for like under $10 now), you can check out the internal Konami demonstrations for MGS2. The video keeps flashing this large MGS III icon during portions of it. It's interesting just to see how shitty the game looked early on too, and hearing Scott Dolph doing the narration is also pretty funny too. Worth checking out.
Ahh well, beaten, but at least I was somewhat knowledgable on the issue. Once again I've been one-upped by *ahem* "Johnny Undaunted".
