There is a language barrier in nearly all the games. Some notable exceptions are Kaze Klonoa: Midnight Museum, Rockman & Forte, and Makaimura. There is even a Beatmania for the WS complete with a controller add-on.
Any Wonderswan owners out there. I was thinking of investing in one, but I wanted to see your opinions. Is there a language barrier with alot of games?

WonderSwan is great for vertical shooters since you can hold it vertical as well as horizontal, though I don't know how many there are for the system.
They have the WonderSwan Color and the newer backlight version WonderSwan Crystal... I still need to pick up one of those, I have 2 WonderSwan Color (Final Fantasy units) and 1 regular WonderSwan (Chocobo unit) handhelds![]()
If you don't mind wading through japanese text, by all means. If you've never played a game using a faq, and the idea doesn't sound appealing, DON'T buy one.
The WS Beatmania is bad-ass.![]()
Boo, Hiss.
Werewolf sounds like your went Wonderswan crazy with all those units. Thanks everyone for your input
Own a Wonderswan Color, though I haven't played it since last year. I bought it for the FF remakes originally in 2001, though now that they're in English on the PS, I won't be touching the WSC versions again. I know the library offers more than that, but I'm not a fan of the unit's screen or hardware, and don't plan on upgrading to the slightly-better Swan Crystal, so there isn't much incentive for me to use it often. There have been some notable action-esque titles released on the b/w WS, but the WSC library seems to be mainly populated by games based off of anime licenses. As someone who doesn't speak/read Japanese, the library isn't exactly friendly towards me.
Posted a few days ago on Magic Box. I know stuff like that has been mentioned a few times before, and Magic Box isn't anywhere near always correct, but if this does turn up on the GBA, my WSC is as good as sold.Square Enix announced they are currently examining the sale decisions of Final Fantasy III. The game was originally scheduled to release on WonderSwan Color, Square Enix mentioned that are interested to port the game to GameBoy Advance.
I might be wrong, but I thought that the Swan Crystal was an upgrade from their previous screen to a slightly larger, TFT liquid crystal display, much like the original GBA. Still no front or back-light, though.Originally posted by Werewolf

I bought one of those fancy special limited edition ff1 wonderswan color packs. It doesn't get much play because all but like one of my games is really heavy on the japanese. I've seen a few games in english, though.
Anyone have a wonderborg? I always wanted one of those..
There are a number of quality games even if you take the RPGs out.
Rainbow Islands
Rockman
Klonoa
Jaja Marukun (my fave)
lode runner
Crazy Climber
Pocket Fighter
Guilty Gear Petit 2
SD Gundam Operation U.C.
Beatmania
Puzzle Bobble
Kinnikuman
RPGs that you can kinda enjoy:
Langrisser
FF IV
Namco Super Wars
Front Mission
