Thread: Ape Escape 2

  1. The game is good. Its not mind blowing good, but its fun. I guess thats the point. Its FUN.
I guess the fact that you don't have to look for the hidden stars, find the 1,000 berries and save the princess is refreshing to me.

Capture the apes, fight the occasional boss and mess with gadgets. Simple and sweet. I give it a B.

I agree completely. I popped in the first AE right before playing AE2 and the transition, aside from the aesthetics, was very unnoticeable. This game really is easy, but it's fun and supposedly it has enough hidden secrets and unlockables to provide some decent replay value.

I really like it... it might as well BE the first game gameplay-wise, but that's not really a bad thing. All the extras are pretty cool. I like the comics... one of them even had censored poop in it!

  5. I plan on picking this up tomorrow. I would have got it earlier but I just got the money. I'm very poor at the moment.

  6. I picked this up at the beginning of July and enjoyed every second of it until.....

I accidentally left my memory card at my friends house two days ago. He thought it was his memory card and said what the fuck is Ape Escape 2 doing on my card and he erased my file!!!!! He said he didn't realize that it was actually MY memory card until he saw .hack and Suikoden 3 on there as well. I was 14 hours into the game with 289 monkeys caught and almost every single unlockable from the gotcha box unlocked. I only had about 3 items left from each category to unlock. Needless to say I was/am pretty pissed.

In my opinion, Ape Escape 2 is a fantastic game. I would like to go in to more depth as to why I thought the game was so great but I am to pissed off to think about it. However, that said, i was a hell of a lot of fun until my friend erased my data. There is no way in hell I am going to play all the way through the game again right away though. I will let it sit a while and see if I feel like playing it ever again. I sure do like how light hearted AE2 is though and I really like the humor in the game. Its a pure joy just to pick up and play. Therefore, I think I will just play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for hours on end whem it comes out. After that I should be sick of RPG's again and ready to play AE2...Hopefully because I really want to see the end of the game some day...

  7. Without spoiling anything I just want to say that after you beat the game it gives you the option to save. I suggest you do and load that save.

Maybe I'm too sensitive but I think stuff like this should be in spoiler tags even. I like when I beat a game and am surprised by some reward; makes it feel like more of a discovery. Now I know it's coming for sure and won't be as happy. There really wasn't any reason to tell us this; what idiot wouldn't save if given the option after beating a game. That's a dead give-away that something new has opened up. </rant>

Not trying to start a big war over this 'cause in the end I admit it really isn't a huge deal. Just thought I'd bring it up.

  9. I agree with the general opinion here. It's fun, but doesn't really present anything new, and it's way too easy. But still oh so fun. I don't regret buying it at all, even though I was completely done with the main game, the time trials (which are also absurdly easy) and the collecting in less than a week.

I feel it should be pointed out that the unlockables are a bit of a scam, though. You unlock items in a "Gotcha Box" (so called in the euroepan version, at least) buy paying 10 coins for 1 randomized prize. At first, you'll be scoring unlockables like nobody's business. As you run out of things to unlock, you can end up spending 500 coins and not getting a single damn thing of interest. This is very annoying.

And to unlock them, as you probably figured out, all you have to do is gather money. So all you do is enter the casino level over and over and, basically. Not very fun for replay value, sadly.

Spoiler tag for Compass, everyone else can read it, I guess.

There is a second quest with a second character, but it's really lame. All it does is let you play the exact same game again, except it now uses the alternate time trial placements of the monkeys. Hidden monkeys are usually in the same spots, though, so the point is pretty moot. This second quest is so lame, it strips out all the movies since they were too lazy to do ones to fit the second character too. Thumbs down on that one.
