Anyway...what exactly is so dangerous about the flip-top mod? It sounds as simple as replacing one case with another.

Little to nothing. Sometimes mistakes can happen, but the risks are far lower than trying to solder something into your ps2. I've had mine for months and it works perfectly fine.

I hate to say it, but it was just as much your fault, as the drunk's, when it came to your Dreamcast getting trashed. Never throw a party with valued items in harms way. There is this thing called a closet, that holds items fairly well.

Not once for my six-year old modded PSX and the PS2 I found on eBay two years ago.

By comparison, I've seen a SNES and a Dreamcast die, and my Xbox has a very finicky DVD drive.

Don't you just move the PS2 guts from one case to another?

This is the basic gist of the FlipTop.

Take off the top of your PS2 case
Move the power/eject buttons over to the fliptop case
Move the memory card slots over to the fliptop case so they don't look naked
Take off the cover of the DVD drive
Screw back on case

Yet SOMEWHERE IN THAT..Something went horribly wrong. You're supposed to take this little white cup from the DVD drive and put it on the top of the fliptop so it can catch the spindle. My dad put that in backwards when I wasn't looking and didn't catch it before I tried it out. WahWah~

But yes, it SHOULD BE painfree...like I said, freak accident.
