Thread: Your thoughts....

  1. Your thoughts....

In the past few days, the Japanese media has been mainly focused on a murder that committed by a 12-year-old boy. If I read it it right, the boy, while in an electronics store, kidnapped a 4-year-old boy, then proceeded to the roof of the store parking area, made the 4-year-old get naked, then kicked him over the side...about 70 feet to his death. So far, the kid's in police custody, and nothing has been done to the paernts yet. It hard to not see any kind of media without this subject being somewhere on it.

Even though this is one in a zillion incidents, it's shocking to see such cruel intentions come from the mind of someone so young.

What do you think? (If you care)

  2. How common is this in Japan anyhow?

All I can say to this is that is a sign of the times, sadly. We're on the road to self destuction as a species and it looks like Japan just caught up. I hope this is due to some kind of mental defect in the kid cus I'd hate to think that he did this just for kicks.

Out of curiosity how well does Japan deal with the mentally disturbed?

  3. Wow. That kid looks so innocent, too.

This is really fucked up, but it happens. It's the exception, not the norm, and there will always be exceptions.

Are video games a big scapegoat for violence over there? I'd guess that they're not, seeing as how they seem to be respected alot more, but ya never know.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  4. I'm going to guess that its "super rare". Well, I hope it is, anyways.

As for my thoughts, well, I don't like it when twelve year olds kick four year olds off of rooftops.

how is the media handling it?

I haven't heard anything of the sort, but who knows? Maybe there is an incident or two that happened because of video games. Oddly enough, the kid's motive (so far) is that this was some kind of 'game'.

A more complete story than mine....

  6. Damn, That is crazy, and cruel.

I think its more of rare case, and kid indeed has a head problem, but I hope that it wont be occuring again.

  7. That is going to be a really difficult situation to deal with. :/

I read the story, and also browsed through the site as well. Interesting stuff.

  8. Something tells me that the boy had been ignored by his parents for most of his life...

  9. I think that there are some people, upset about using games as a scapegoat, use the parents as a scapegoat. I'm not saying that games have a big impact, or that parents are all medal candidates, but the fact is that some people are just screwed up. I was brought up well, but I could easily go and start punching people in the face. I don't *not* do it because of how I was raised though. I refrain because I don't want other people punching *me* in the face. My parents didn't teach me that.

  10. Parents don't have to teach their children explicitly not to punch people in the face or push them off buildings. It's more of a subtle way in which values are passed on, meaning that the way my parents behaved is how I'm gonna behave, etc. The lack of any parental guidance at all causes the children to be more easily moldable than if some sort of foundation was laid down.

Of course, you'll ALWAYS get the occasional psychotic, but it doesn't come from thin air... children mimic adults and what they see or hear, whether it be games, tv, or movies, it's how we learn when we are young.
