Bonzai!!!

Anybody catch this on FOX tonight? I watched about 2 minutes of the program before I got sick of it. It's a crappy knock-off of that already crappy MXC show on TNN. Be forewarned if you plan on tuning in.

My respect for FOX is at an all-time low now...

This was originally on...USA iirc. Except it was the bumper to movies. They would say what the challenge was and then play the movie, then at the commercial break they would play the challenge. During the movie you could go online and bet on who would win. I have no idea why they thought it would work as a half hour show.

This show has been around LONG before that other piece of shit TNN show reared its head. It originally started as BONZAI! Movie Friday, on USA Network. They would show these little skits during the commercial breaks, and it was fucking fantastic.

It's like the TV Version of Wario Ware.

The skits would come up, and you would go onto their website and vote to who you think will win, and you were entered into a drawing to win prizes.

One of the skits was "Shake hands man!" which had a guy go up to celebrities and shake their hand for as long as he can, and you had to guess how long it took for the celebrity to break his grip.

The skits were so damn random, and the color commentary was so off the wall, the show was just so hard not to like.

Anyway, USA dumped them, and I was sure that I would never see this show again, which is why I was so happy to see them return, and with the same bald refree and man with glasses!

THe one thing I don't like is that they got new announcers, the last ones were hilarious. They used to shame many stupid Americans with very little effort!

The new challanges I saw in this episode were great, just as irreverant as the last ones. The got a new girl to replace shake hands man, instead of shaking hands she only asks one question, and puts up a wall of silence. It's up to you to guess when the celebrity becomes overwhelemed with shame and walks away.

And the soccer connundrum challange was brilliant:

"What happens if a man with one leg, shoots penalty shots in soccer, to a man with one arm?"

MXC owns banzai hands down. funniest shit i've seen in years.

its all bout the one where homechick catches a soccer ball in the face and gets knocked out. best. elimination. ever.

Its nice to see that some broadcast networks are willing to take risks. I thoroughly enjoyed Bonzai.

I saw this on accident. First time I put it on Fox on a sunday in I don't know how long, and this came on.

Shake hands man was on as well as one question woman. As well as two chicken challenges. Their random irreverent challenges, while unique from whatever else might be out there, were too similar to each other. I did enjoy the shake-hands man and the one question woman though. However, I just enjoy it when people are screwed with in public.

Its why I like Shotgun TV. Or, as I like to call it: "Happenings, The TV show."

It's actually a british production, and is origiinally a cohesive show, not a split-up type thing. CITY-TV started showing it in Canada 2 or 3 years ago, well before Fox picked it up.

Personally, I think it's hilarious and captures the insane vibe of Japanese humiliation gameshows perfectly.

And for God's sake guys, BAnzai. A bonsai is a little tree.
