Seriously. Final's fifth level hurts the game's flow. Levels 1-4 and 6-F get a B+ from me, but level 5 gets an F. Bleah.

I've gotten to the level 5 final bosswhore on one credit, but it usually takes me a few credits to get past him.

I played some Delta last night after days of Final, and its design is unquestionably superior.

  3. fuck this, im going to best buy right now.

  4. Ok um... the regular ending is cool.

One of the 'secret' endings is FUCKING AWESOME

I don't want to spoil a thing. I'll just say it totally rules. Avoid any and all spoilers until you experience this yourself, it's so sweet.

    edit:

Soundtrack - gotta have it! Anyone have a location?

More specifically, I'd like to know what songs they replaced for the US release. It seems the ending song was changed? Wondering wtf they did this at all...

    Am I missing something?

I've seen 2 out of 3 final stages and the associated "endings," in which your ship just floats around in an environment while the camera pans around and inappropriate Blue Man Group music annoys you. Is this what you're referring to, or is there a real, bone-fide ending if you one credit it or play on Bydo or something? As far as I can see Final has nothing I would call a story resolution.

  7. If I'm lucky or smart on Bydo, I can 1 credit to stage 3. I played R-Typer mode at work the day I got it, and managed to get to the mid-boss, but didn't have the time to beat him (cool that customers seemed really curious about it though!)

I usually average stage 4 on any lesser difficulty. I only used the Free Play option a couple days ago, furiously trying to unlock the Cerberus (which is my hands-down FAVORITE R-ship of all)
I might do the same to unlock the R-Type III ship, but everything else I'm having fun just taking stabs at.

Anyone else notice just how finely tuned this game is when it comes to ship speed and weaponry? Having to shift gears on the fly during the 3rd boss (speed 1, speed 3, speed 2, speed 1...) or choosing between ships with mad vertical coverage or rebound capability or raw wave-cannon power negates most of my complaints (music, stage 5 boss, lulls in the action...) Sometimes it pains me to take the Albatross out of my hangar. It really does.

I didn't realize you could turn free play off once it was unlocked.

    Cool.

Your right they didnt have it, picked it up today at th local mom and pops import shop. So far it seems like the side scrolling shooter ive been waiting for (the ambiance and flow is awesome, and like someone mentioned the music is real fuckin quality), WAY better than Delta and not just becuae of the graphics, now if only i could find a copy of Border Down. A+

    Back to the game.

  10. I picked this up yesterday, I don't consider myself any good at shooters. Any tips or strategies I should know about going into this game?
