Thread: Atlus

  1. I'm sorry to bump up my topic like this... but Zerodash, the guys who made Snow Bros actually went on to make an entirely new company named GAZELLE.

Atlus has also published the home versions of most of Psikyo’s arcade games such as Strikers, Gunbird, Groove On Fight, and Tengai/Sengoku Blade.
Groove on Fight was never a Psikyo game. It belongs to Atlus' own Gouketsuji Ichizoku (Power Instinct) saga. Some of the people who worked on it worked later in the mentioned Princess Crown, one of the most unique and beautiful games for the Saturn. It's a side-view action RPG with an interesting combat system and incredible hand-drawn graphics. Co-published by Sega, but made by Atlus themselves.

This thread got confusing cause of including Atlus "as publisher" or "as a US publisher", in my opinion. There are many games mentioned here not related to this company at all. The "real" Japanese company, that is. It's odd to see games like Hori's Run Saber, Magic Crystals, Ragnacenty (Crusader of Centy) or SCE's Sky Gunner (to name a few) in an Atlus topic. Super Dodge Advance is not a remake of the NES game of the same name, and Technos (asTakara) is not related to this company at all.

Considering US Atlus the same company as Japan Atlus is an error to make an exhaustive report. Sorry, but had to say it.

Yep. Toaplan actually "exploded" into two companies: Cave and Gazelle. Eighting is more related to Compile and Takumi formed up from Taito.

  3. Atlus rocks...I don't think they've ever made a game that I truly disliked...
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.

Actually, Technos now operates under Million now and they're currently working with Alus on River City Ransom EX and Double Dragon Advance.

But yeah, Super Dodge Ball Advance shouldn't be considered as a remake of the NES game, considering how different it looks. Even moreso if you consider the fact that Technos didn't use the Kunio characters in the game (they were only given SDB names in the localized version).

Actually, alot of ex Taito staff have worked on Raizings games. One of the testers from MUSHA Aleste programmed Battle Garrega and Souky. I've never compared Takumi's staff to Cave's or Toaplans, but I know they worked on the (incredibly poor) sequel to Twin Cobra.

And Takara has brought quite a bit of Atlus, FYI.

My bad. I don't really play fighting games so I didn't look up on that.

  6. Atlus is one of my favorite publishers (and I'm not even sure if I HAVE any favorite publishers :P). They bring over cool quirky games, and they usually do passable jobs on the localization (usually bang on for the game itself, and decent for the translation and so on).

I can't really think of any others that I look on favorably, PARTICULARLY the giant ones, and the computer publishers (most of whom suck immense donkey wang)

I'll give you credit for your second statement, though. Bless that crazy Joker.
Tomoharu Saito is the Ketsui artist.

  8. Here's the ROMhack link incase anyone is interested.

Personally, I love MegaTen RPGs over all others. Not to the say the others are bad, but I love how few MegaTen games fit into the traditional molds of the genre.
    Time for a change
