Movies to game are nearly always bad.
Games to movies uses the wrong games, as a rule.
With the upcoming release of Laura Croft: Tomb Raider tomorrow, I wondered since most of us hear are obviously gaming fans as well, but what are your feelings of video games being turned into films? Obviously some were not good and some were neat to see (Super Mario Bros., now I did say neat). If you haven't heard there is a Resident Evil 2 and House of the Dead being worked on as well. So let it out what do you think? Also, what do you feel about movies to game format? Do you think that they over do their marketing and are infringing on sacred territory? Let's hear it.

Well, There are bad game to movies examples:
Street Fighter
Tomb Raider
And there are good game to movies examples:
Mortal Kombat
Resident Evil.
Its all depends on your preference, since some might get a kick from campy Double Dragon, and some will hate its guts. But then love Tomb Raider.
Still, I'm looking forward both Tomb Raider 2(which is looking way better than its predecessor) and RE2.
If I just see Metal Gear Solid become a movie, I'll never need to see another videogame movie ever again. Metroid is also still in development, wich could be realy cool, as any one who played Prime would know.

I used to say that but after just watching it I realized that it hasn't aged well. And Resident Evil was not a good movieOriginally Posted by Despair
it was crap, it was just less crappy than other game to movie conversions.
I liked RE alot, though i didn't like MK much at all.
Hmm, Thats just what you think. I still get a kick from watching MK.Originally Posted by ShineAqua
As for RE, there are people who like it and ones who dont. Could have it been better? Yes, ofcourse(especially with all the gore that was cut out), but even as it was released it was pretty cool.
MK didn't last too well because it's fight scenes are not up to standard, but they are better then what you see in some stupid Van Damn flick.
Did anyone ever see Conquest when that was still playing? Man, even if the acting sucked, the fights really kicked ass! It would've been neat if we had a seperate movie with that action while keeping the MK style feel to it.
"Your soul better belong to Jesus, mmm-mmmmm..... cause your ass belongs to me!"
It's been a long time since I've seen MK, but I really liked the fights. They were done a lot better than American fight scenes were doing at the time, and it stuck remarkable well to what game story there was. I also liked RE, but I'm a RE whore so it's debatable. If it came up on TV I could sit an watch it easily, though I'm waiting for a Directors Cut to buy it on DVD.
House of the Dead has no right to be a movie, there is just not enough there. I've heard it's gory and it's got some big cans shaking around, but that's about it. Plus, the idiot of a director cut in footage from the game even after everyone screamed bloody murder not to. For zombies, it looks like the Aussie flick "Undead" is going to be the one to see. I've heard nothing but great shit about it and I think Lions Gate picked it up for US distribution.
I remember hearing Crazy Taxi got picked up, who the hell thought that was a good idea? Money could be better spent elsewhere.
