Thread: Gigawing 2: Scoring and Strategy

  1. Been noodling around with Passive Resistance:

  2. Great thread guys. After reading it, I've decided to try, for a third time, to find that GigaWing 2 magic. I hope for my sake that the third time's a charm.

I just need to know a few things first, sort of a quick refresher to myself:

Do the levels change order depending on the character chosen ?? If so, how do you work this into the score sheet here ??

"Full default, one credit only, alternate ships permitted." - one credit meaning simply one death and its Game Over, correct ??

"Absolutely, positively no 'Restarts' beyond the first stage." - what do you mean by restarts ??

    Absolutely no bombs, correct ??

I'm going to play this game for high scores and 0-point plays, but it would take a miracle for me to even begin competing with your scores. I just simply want to have some fun with GW2 and stop disliking the game

    Thanks in advance,
    - Kabuki

  3. Good to see you around these parts, Kabuki.

Do the levels change order depending on the character chosen ?? If so, how do you work this into the score sheet here ??
Yes, and different characters have different scoring potential as a result. There's no way to really account or balance this, so just note what character you're using so everyone knows what level to judge your score at.

"Full default, one credit only, alternate ships permitted." - one credit meaning simply one death and its Game Over, correct ??
Nope - 3 ships per credit. Once the continue screen pops up, game over.

"Absolutely, positively no 'Restarts' beyond the first stage." - what do you mean by restarts ??
If you hit start, you will see a 'restart' option. This allows you to restart the level the exact same way you entered it, allowing you to replay the level if you messed up. Obviously this would be a bit cheap for our purposes.

  4. Great, thanks Mode7. I think I'll start GW2 as study break material, then get into it more once summer starts

One more question - if there are any hidden options in the game, how do I access them ??

    Thanks,
    - Kabuki

  5. Yes, there are a few unlockable and secret options - I believe the aforementioned FAQ at GameFAQs covers all of them.

I finally managed to take out one of those 'bits' during the Stage 5 encounter. However, this was with Ralugo and his very powerful secondary weapon, and it still took me until almost the very end of the stage. Plus the technique used required me to focus so much of my assault on a single bit that the main boss actually timed out.

I'm not sure if it's possible or not with any other characters, but I don't believe it can be done with Chery, unfortunately.

  6. But we can use bombs right? That's the default, so I've been using them.

Also, I was wondering what everyone's highs are for the first level. sleeveboy brought it up a while ago, but I'm sure we've all improved quite a bit since then. I just cracked 675 trillion on it, and I still see areas of improvement.

This game just gets better and better the more you play it, it's a shame how it was bashed so much. The only online guide I can find(besides Mode's) is the one at GameFAQs. Are there any others? I'm dyin' for some more strategies.

  7. Yep, bombs away if need be. Note that it can potentially hurt your medal count in the long run, however.

My current best for the end of the first level is 1200 trillion-ish (I think so, anyway - I haven't actually stopped to count the zeros), though I tend to hover around the 1000 trillion mark on an average game.

No other English guides that I'm aware of. What would be nice is a stage-by-stage break-down of potential volcanoes, as that's largely what scoring comes down to.

  8. 4,863,631,591,831,510 - sleeveboy / Chery / RF / Stage 5

I'm still behind you on my average Cloud Sea score, Kaneda. I'm averaging about 400 trillion right now. I think at 600 trillion, you're shooting about par (for an American player, that is!).

I've been using Ralugo a lot lately. That secondary weapon of his is just brutal when powered up, and he has a pretty decent stage order for scoring purposes. Perhaps my next submission will be a Ralugo score...

Here's a Fun Giga Wing 2 Trivia Tidbit: the names of the first five bosses, each of which correspond to a letter of the Hebrew alphabet (City = Gimel; Factory = Yod; Cloud Sea = Daleth; Holy Realm = Waw), collectively spelly "viyidgaddash", which is a Hebrew transliteration of an Aramaic phrase meaning "holy name" or "name of God". It is part of the Kaddish, an ancient Jewish blessing usually recited during serious occasions.

I'm not quite sure of its connection to the Ark of the Covenant, or the "Holy Ark" in Giga Wing 2, but in the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" the character Bellocq recites the Kaddish before opening the Ark (and being blown to smithereens).

    Coincidence?

  9. Heh - That's pretty neat.

  10. Mode: My entry should read "Stage 5", not "Stage 4".

    Thanks.
