Thread: Gigawing 2: Scoring and Strategy

  1. Okay. I finally sat down with this one tonight, after weeks of itching to try it without bombs. And...it's amazing how much I improved right off the bat. My concentration and patience for the game goes way, way, up when I don't have the option of lazily working my way out of any sticky situation with a bomb. (This tends to be true with any game I try no-bombing with...the last time I did it was with Strikers 1945 II, and the results were very nice indeed.)

The game is really starting to feel like Bangaioh now...i.e. not just reflecting at the right points, but learning the right places and techniques for creating bonus showers wherever possible, by creating the most potentially dangerous (and bullet-filled) situations for yourself. Anyway, the high point of tonight's session:

    115,905,305,606,700 - jiji / Cherry / RF / Stage 3 / no bomb

Edit: Whoops, arcade mode, of course.

And with the amount of improvement I saw tonight, that won't last long, if I keep it up.

  2. Mode, should I post my new high score everytime I move up in the ranks, assuming that I may get better ??
Post a new score whenever you like; the thread is really very simple and quick to update and I don't mind one bit. I'll add an Arcade Tag challenge if enough people express interest.

And nice to have you with us, jiji. Good to have a full Top 10.

  3. 7,844,187,150,468,830 - Kaneda / Chery / RF / Stage 6

I'd be willing to do the arcade tag. Actually, I can team-up with the 6th place holder, BooMsta (I practically force him to play everyday). But if we did a tag challenge would both names be listed, even if they weren't a TNL member? Like "Kaneda and his mom"?

    Don't see why not.

  5. 8,465,403,346,700,841 - sleeveboy / Chery / RF / Stage 6

Some nice results after a short 1-day break. During the interim, I played some relaxing Thunder Force V.

I find it helpful to loosen up with a nice horizontal shooter like TFV or Salamander after long stretches of playing pattern-heavy verts like GigaWing 2. Anyone else feel that way?

  6. Here's my latest measly score:

    369,410,446,039,521 - jiji / Chery / RF / Stage 3

  7. 9,100,597,519,235,080 - Kaneda / Chery / RF / Stage 6

Check out my cool new sig...

  8. Heh - Very nice. You're getting awfully close to the magical 1 ho-jillion point, too.

  9. Okay. My Stage 6 scores are...to put it mildly...disappointing.

It's awfully hard to kill the boss without timing out, especially with Chery. Anyone have some tips?

(BTW, I would watch your Stage 6 video, Mode, but I can't get it to work -- what player do I need?)

  10. It's just a standard mpg file, so any standard media player -- like windows media player, for example -- should work. It is compressed with winRAR, however, so make sure you have that first.

Edit: if anyone still wants to see those two videos, you'd better grab them post-haste. Can't guarantee that they'll be up much longer.
