Thread: Gigawing 2: Scoring and Strategy

  1. New high score for Arcade Mode: 11,997,258,993,115,781 - Limi / RF / ALL (Mode, I've e-mailed you the screen for verification)

Man this game has been kicking my ass.

  2. New Arcade digits para mi:

    376,735,281,305,900 - BioMechanic/Ralugo/RF/Stage 4

The more time I give, the higher my average score becomes. I'll break 400 trillion before long, I'm sure of it. Just gotta discover a few more volcano points...

Oh hey, lemme pick the brains of you elite flyers: do you get more points for milking a boss or by destroying it as fast as possible? I'm getting mixed results.

Also, how often do you guys get volcanoes on bosses? I've only done it a couple times, on the underwater boss - are you guys triggering boss volcanoes regularly?

You get many more points for milking than you do for killing them quickly. Quick kills net you only a time bonus, but each segment killed gets multiplied by your multiplier and added to your score. It's harder to milk some bosses than others though, particularly the City Stage boss. Your main priority in that case is killing the first form when the dome is closed (fortunately, this is easy for Ralugo players to do).

Ideally, you should try to trigger a volcano with each reflect. Again, this is easier to do with some bosses than others -- on the Factory boss it's a piece of cake, but the City Stage boss is a bit more difficult. It's all about bullet herding and timing.

    More later.

  4. Had a great run this weekend, and I think I'm slowly getting the hang of arcade mode (thanks for the tips, sleeveboy).

    1,769,322,574,651,861 - BioMechanic/Ralugo/RF/Stage 6

Persistence and practice is paying off! It's great to slaughter your previous score. I still need volcano work, but I'm starting to think I can take this thing out on one credit.

Oh - the "1" at the end of my score was a Stage 1 restart.

  5. A technique I find especially helpful when dealing with volcanoes is to dive right into them when they blow. You will get many more points if you go right into it as soon as it blasts, rather than sitting back and collecting them as they fall. Focusing on collecting volcano items shot my first level high score of 600 trillion to over 1000 after just a couple of tries.

  6. Baby steps...

    12,606,492,097,541,061 - sleeveboy / Chery / RF / Stage 7

Any tricks to finding the "safe spots" during the Stage 7 boss's diagonal spread pattern? I'm having some difficulty sussing them out.

  7. I'm not sure which pattern you mean, exactly. If you could describe which 'form' it takes place during (shell, wings, destroyed wings) and any attacks that take place just before or after, I might be able to help you out.

Wing form. It's the one that hits just after she fires that large cone-shaped pattern (which follows the teardrop-shaped tracking shots) right after she returns onscreen.

  9. Right, pretty sure I know what you mean. The key for any 'safe spot' technique is to judge your position relative to any static points on the screen. For example, score display, RF gauge and lettering, enemy/background positions and the one universal constant: the corners of the screen. You just won't get a more consistent XY than that.

Anyway, In this case I use the bottom right hand corner of the screen, and just jam my plane down into it. Then - ever so slightly - I nudge my way over to the left, maybe 1/4 of the Stork's width, and the entire pattern whizzes past.

That pattern is chock-full of holes though, so if you're not comfortable with that one, experiment a bit and find what works best for you and your plane.

  10. New Player/Score

Hello fellow shooters, I'm new here Reading this tread has turned my dust gathering giga wing 2 into the hidden gem of my shooter collection. I feel guilty for ever bashing this game.

    My humble score:

    452,622,732,039,960 Wanderer/Chery/RF/Stage 4
