Yeh, I don't mind the Astros, even though the Mets pwned them in 86 too.
The 'Stros had style back in the 80s. Sadly the wacky rainbow unis and cool orange hats were already gone by 86, I think.... I dont understand why they want to look traditional/old west now when their name is the ASTROS.![]()
Yeah... but I don't see how the old unis were appropriate either. At least now they look sharp =/ Looking at the old ones they're kind of neat now, but only in a "what were they thinking" kind of way and wearing one (as I've seen people do these days) is seen as cool*... like a Nintendo Power Tee-Shirt for the original Zelda.
/cry @ Mets in 86
*Most people here might not have thought about it but not only has Houston sports teams been largely unfavored no matter the circumstances, but have also had very ugly uniforms. Oilers and thier baby blue and the Rainbowstros aren't exactly vouge - remanants of thier colors are still awash in the Astrodome for good, and ugly, measure. The Rockets might well be excluded from this rule - they're also the only Houston Major Leage team to win a Championship (a real one).

I actually like the Astros current unis. I think the colours look unique and great. I just don't understand how it fits with the name "Astros". If any team should be different, it's them.
As for the old unis, yeh, they are completely weird and off the wall which is what made them appealing and fun, sort of like the Vancouver Canucks old garish yellow unis. When I was little I really wanted one of those rainbow uniforms and an orange hat, but I never got one.
Speaking of weird, the Expos need to bring back their crazy pinwheel caps and powder blue unis.... you see those caps on the streets quite often these days. People are fond of the old days of Nos Amours.
I don't follow the NBA at all, but because it is cited so often I do know that the Rockets changed to those horrible pajamas uniforms and cartoon logo after they won and it's been all downhill since. What were they thinking? Now that's irretrievably ugly.Originally Posted by Tracer

I have an Expos cap here. I liked the lettering, which is about as much as you need to sell me. The new Astros lettering ain't half bad. I'd buy a jersey, but they cost more than casual clothes have a right to. I could buy a nice sport coat for those prices =/ I almost did buy an Avalance jersey though... a Patrick Roy one. I though it would be neat since I have the same last name. The I thought it would be gay and it wasn't worth 120 bucks at all.
I follow the NBA pretty closely, I am a sports fan in general. I'll always find "the good guys" in any sport and root for them thick and thin. Being from Houston makes that easy, save for Hockey (that makes me sad) and Soccer (FRANCE!) and LaCrosse (?? dunno). As to the Rockets, they're kind of the inverse to the rule. They were great and highly favored usually (except against the Knicks in 94... my that was sweeeeeeet) and had great looking jerseys (IMO) but as soon as they changed to the retard gear they've sucked. They changed logos now at least so they look better. As it would happen, the whole team should be shapeing up to be a threat in the NBA very very soon. Here's to beating the hell out of the Lakers.
Wonderful tangents.
I'm all for the Sox taking it this yearI'm more than used to the Astros getting elminated in the first round (to the Braves usually) that I cannot reasonably expect them to win in the post season. Maybe BoSox fans are the same way but GL to them anyway.

If some of the slumping starting pitchers in Seattle can pick up the pace, the Mariners would be very difficult to beat.
The Sox and mariners play for the first time this year sometime next week, which is gonna be quite a game cause they are so similar this year.
The mariner's scare me, and the only reason i don't think they'll win is that they have been showing signs of coming down. Oakland could take it as well, but it would take a little work. Honestly I'm confident (despite the curse of the bambino Strider) that if the sox make it to the playoff's this team will become the team to beat, I just don't wanna have to face the yankees in the playoffs.
Any good trades yet for your teams so far in the last 4 hours of deadline?

But yeah, if the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the playoffs, I'd hate to be anyone within five miles of Steinbrenner, especially after losing like they did in 2001 to Arizona and then having the Angels whoop 'em good in the first round last year. Could be some hilarious physical comedy. So here's hoping.![]()
As long as it's not the Yankees vs. the Braves or Giants in the World Series, I'll be happy.
I would like to see St. Louis vs. Seattle, and it would be really cool if the Royals got a shot too.
Personally, I do not have confidence in Boston's pitching. Without those bullpen acquisitions I'd give them no shot. Sure, the Sox can hit, but pitching tends to dominate in the playoffs. But I'd love it if they knocked off NY.
As far as the West Coast is concerned, the Dodgers need to fire Jack Clark now and trade a couple of their great collection of arms for a couple of bats, at the very least. It's ridiculous to see all that great pitching going to absolute waste. Pathetic.
