Thread: AL team heading to the world series this year. (A poll)

THE YANKEES GOT BOONE TODAY! HOORAY! HOORAY! HOORAY!!!!!!!!

As well, the Bo Sox got Suppan which is a pretty good aquisition, but Boone is a very very very good player. He'll fill in nicely the hole I miss since Brosious.

Anyways, you guys act like the Yankees are playing like crap this year. We've got the 3rd best record in baseball, behind the Braves and Giants, and best in AL. It just so happens the Red Sox are somehow managing to keep up, and I need to give them props for that. But when it all unfolds, it will be the Yankees up top.

By all rights and means Mueller should still be manning the hot corner on the North Side. Now we are instead blessed with Aramis "E-5" Ramirez. He'd better hit like two years ago.

My pops is a huge BoSox fan having grown up in Framingham, MA, so I get to witness his annual heartbreak when they either: 1) get knocked out the first round in a quick fashion, or 2) blow their wild card/division lead in the last month of the season. The addition of Suppan is nice, but I still think you're starting 5 is questionable. Pedro's still an ace, but he's not the guy he was a few years ago. Lowe's pitching better lately, but he's still not who he was last year. Wakefield seems to pitch every freaking day (I have MLB Extra Innings), and Burkett's a joke. At least Mendoza gets to go back to the pen. Picking up B.H. Kim earlier was clutch, but having that three-way deal that would have landed Garcia hurt. i really think he would have benefitted from a change of scenery. I'm not sold on Suppan by any stretch.

I'm a Cubs fan, but I'm going with the White Sox and Giants in the WS. The ChiSox have a deadly lineup and three legitimate #1's in Loaiza, Colon, and Buehrle, which, when combined with that offense makes them very tough to beat in a 5-7 game series. Getting Schoenweis helps, giving the Sox another lefty to go along with Marte and Wunsch in the pen. Koch has been shaky, but they can just go to Gordon in the end. This team really seems to have their eyes set on October and I don't see who else has the combination of hitting and pitching (defense upgraded with Alomar and Graffanino at SS) that they do. It hurts me to say it, but I think they're heading in that direction.

We'll see if you're right. Oswalt likely out until Sept., Wade Miller getting shelled, Robertson getting by on smoke and mirrors, etc. Your offense isn't enough to win the division alone. We'll pass you up fairly soon.

  5. I think, I hope the Mariners make it to the World Series to play against the Phillies.

nah I disagree my man, boone was a spectacular acquisition for the yankees, but the sox did something that they haven't done in years, and that was address their problems before the deadline.

The sox have managed to keep pace with the yankees all year with a crippled bullpen, and with one man out of a normal rotation. Also their second starter suffered horribly with inconsistent games in the beginning of the year.

All of these problems have been addressed now.

Our Bullpen would brown any AL team's pants, and Suppan fills in that fifth starter role beautifully.

As far as offense goes, the sox are absolutely the best in the league and perhaps all of baseball.

So I have to disagree right now, when everyone arrives and things settle down, their is no doubt in my mind the sox in the playoffs (either through wild card or the division) will probably dismantle the yanks.

I don't know about a world series, but I do know now, that theo built this team to beat the yanks (if you look at the bullpen now, it is literally stacked against the yankees lineup specifically, especially with williamson closing instead of Kim.

So wish Jorge luck, his team is gonna need it to shake us.

I agree a lot about these points, however the Bosox are an offensive team this year, all we needed was stability in the rotation, not an ace rotation.

Pedro is pitching quite well, but for some reason we never seem to have run support.

Lowe could give up 20 hits in a game and still get the win, with the way we seem to back him up lately.

Wakefield is solid, and it really just depends on how the knuckleball moves that day.

Burkett is not a joke, he was, and will be one. But at the moment, he's pitching like a champ, and I believe he has it in him to go all season.

and Suppan, is light years ahead of mendoza, and thats all that matters really, because he will bring stablity to the rotation much like kim did to the bullpen.

The point is our offense can if neccessary cover all of these guys weakpoints, and thats a plus. Also our bullpen is overflowing with situational pitchers and ace closers at the moment, so ultimately it comes down to whether or not the curse will kick in.

And I don't really think its coming late this year, because I honestly believe the sox did something for their confidence and for themselves when they took that yankee's series a week ago.

    But we'll see.

I am a sports fan in general. I'll always find "the good guys" in any sport and root for them thick and thin.
If you like the "good guys" in sports, then you dodged a bullet by not buying that Patrick Roy jersey! He is (was!!) one of the biggest a-holes in the NHL. A self-centred prick and he also smacked his wife around and was almost deported from the US because of it. Funny how they didn't mention that during all of those teary-eyed career retrospectives when he retired (during the Stanley Cup Finals, for the attention).

If you want a kit to match you last name, I suggest getting an Andre Roy Tampa Bay Lightning kit. He's just a lousy goon but I don't think hes beaten his wife or anything.

Or.... get a Houston Aeros jersey. They just unveiled their new logo the other day.

  8. Sox choke every year, so the likelyhood of them going to the series is nil. I don't see why they have any votes at all let alone 3. I'd vote Yanks but I haven't looked at baseball standings in over a month.

  10. The Red Sox will win the AL, then lose to the Giants in the series.
