I just got a new PC and I'd like to strengthen my collection, because it's pretty horrible right now. So what are your favorites?
Here's what I have:
Dungeon Siege (just bought it for $20)
Max Payne
Half-Life
Unreal Tournament
Half-Life Blue Shift
Diablo II
Red Faction
Here's what I'm interested in:
Planescape Torment
Dues Ex
No One Lives Forever series
Unreal II (Why don't people like this game? The demo was great, and it's a good way to show off my new system)
Baldur's Gate series
Warcraft III
Quake 3
Battlefield 1942
Syberia
MoH: Allied Assaut
Aliens vs. Predator II
Alice
Also, let me know what you think of the games on my list.
Anything from Blizzard is great, from Warcraft to Diablo to Starcraft.
If you want something a bit off-beat, that's a great mix of action and some strategy, pick up Giants: Citzen Kabuto. One of the funniest games I've ever played too.
As for why people don't like Unreal II, it's because it's very by the numbers as far as gameplay goes. Graphics are pretty insane, and it's by no means a bad game... it just won't wow you with it's uniqueness (like Half-Life did at , point).
Torment and Baldur's Gate series - Great D&D RPG stuff even though I'm not much into them. Morrowind is more my style. From what I have played, I prefer Torment over the Baldur's games because the theme is cooler.
Deus Ex - It's an amazing FPS/RPG hybrid and my favorite game. Also definitely check out the System Shock series.
No One Lives Forever series - Great stuff. They're like Goldeneye crossed with Thief except better than those games.
Unreal 2 - A decent FPS that breaks no new ground. It's better than Unreal 1 anyway.
Quake 3 - I vastly prefer Unreal Tournament but Q3 is still provides a great deathmatch experience.
Syberia - I have only played the demo but it seems like a quality graphic adventure game. Like The Longest Journey, it's very "Euro-looking" even though Syberia wasn't made in Europe.
Medal of Honor - An impressive WWII FPS. It doesn't really do anything new but if you like the console MoH games, it's like them but with better control.
AvP2 - I have only played the demo but it seems better than the previous AvP games. I trust Monolith more than Rebellion.
Alice - Overrated as hell. It's nice-looking but it's quite a dull third-person action game.
Just buy Planescape: Torment. The rest doesn't matter.
Hmmm, seriously, you might want to add Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango to your list, if you haven't played them already. Those two are the best adventure games ever created, IMO.
