I think Full Metal Jacket is one of his finest works. I enjoyed it and thought it was a great depiction of war. Highly recommended movie!![]()
2001 was his first great film imo. It was as big a risk as EWS, in terms of a budget and it's goals.

I guess you've learned the benifit to waiting.
I agree, they should give people like you something. Perhaps a kick in the balls would do nicely and make you slightly less retarded.
What I meant about lectures is that we don't need anybody preaching to each other about why one thing is so great since we've all made up our minds anyway.Originally Posted by Red Cloak
Layers upon layers of symbolism? Is this something that is unique to the film or is it also found in the book? Just wondering.
Never saw Eyes Wide Shut mostly because I can't stand Tom Cruise or Nicole Kidman. Favourite Kubrick film is likely Dr. Strangelove ... which is probably amongst my favourite films of all time. I also really liked The Shinning.
The book is great, but the book presents it's symbolism in the narrative so it's a bit more straight foward. What Kubrick did was take that symbolism, and represent it visually(and other ways). a lot of the time, the environment IS the narritive.
The book is a puzzle, just like the film, and it took Kubrick 30 years to adapt it. It is a tremendous read for any fan of the film, it really confirms a lot of the things I wrote about on my old website.
I haven't seen the film only read the book so I have nothing to base a comparison on. I'll take your word for it though.![]()
Ahh heh. That line with Fridolin where he imagines shooting his old rival in the face with his "gun" is very telling hehe.
I'm going to have to go with MVS on this one. EWS is definitly not one of my favorite Kubrick movies. I don't care if it has so much symbolism that I would never, in a million years, ever figure it out I still won't think of it as a masterpiece. Moving on.
Kubrick is indeed one of my favorite directors, Clockwork Orange, FMJ, The Shining, 2001 and Dr Strangelove are all fantastic movies. I think my favorite of all of them is either Clockwork Orange or FMJ, the only reason I have the av/sig combo of Dr Strangelove is because I just saw it last week. I've been meaning to check out Lolita next, but I have such outstanding late fees at all of the video stores I have a membership to...
Kubrick is king, 2001 is my all time favorite movie of all time. And Dr. Strangelove is my second favorite Kubrick film. Eyes Wide Shut is indeed a great film, its just filmed so well its just so great to watch. And I personally think Clockwork Orange gets too much attention, its good but not his best. Plus it goes on a little too long.
Barf! Barf! Barf!
Full Metal Jacket = Good, but overrated, IMO.
My favorite Kubrick films are A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, and yes, Eyes Wide Shut as well. I enjoy Kubrick's work, but I must admit a lot of his stuff goes over my head.
