Same with me. I just don't see what's so scary about the game. The atmosphere is great, but ghosts that hug you while a meter drops isn't scary at all.
I'm about two hours in and I'm losing motivation to continue. Two reasons why:
- Not scary. Sorry, walking around in around in the dark with a flashlight doesn't mean scary. Ghosts are meh. Not much to the story (yet).
- "Combat" really sucks ass, unless I'm missing something big here. Sometimes ghosts will sit there and let you shoot them, other times they will dissappear and reappear at random, sometimes through a wall, or just fly right toward you. Compare this with the slow moving camera (even leveled up) and the slow movements of the character and it seems overly frustrating. Or sometimes the changing camera angle will screw you, or you get caught in a corner and instantly get two damage for the price of one.
Again, maybe I'm missing something here that makes grabbing the ghosts a little easier. But I would think by two hours of playing the game it would've made sense to me, but not yet. Compare this to another game I'm just now playing, Shinobi. At first I didn't know what the hell I was doing just like FF, but now I'm a lean mean tate-in' machine. I'd still like to continue with FF, but at this point it's more of a chore than fun.

I'm also a member of the 'gave up on FF after 2 hours' club. It's odd because I like almost every aspect of the game, but feel zero motivation to continue playing it. It feels empty in a way I can't easily explain. I don't mind that it's not scary since I've never found any survival horror games scary and the combat is a little frustrating at times, but I've dealt with worse in the past... Maybe because I just don't give a damn about the story. There's nothing particularly compelling about it for me. I don't really care what happened to her brother so there's not a whole lot of reason for me to find out.

same thing happened to me. it had a lot to do with the lousy voice acting. really draws you out of the game.
Uh, so after 6 months of hearing "this game is so scary, it destroys Silent Hill in every way!" ....it's really not?

OMG! DIFFERING OPINIONS?!? !

Differences of opinion are merely temporary fluctuations in wave and amplitude to make up for localized imbalances in the system.
How do I know? Silent Hill is way scary. It's the only explanation.

OMG. Is it FF hate thread?
All opinions are subjective. Some people find RE to be scary, or Eternal Darkness, and then hate Silent Hill or Fatal Frame. It just works different for different people.
I found FF very disturbing, atmospheric and quite scary. The ghost attacks are intense, and so called "hugging" is more of them violenty shaking the life out you, and their attacks through the walls make combat unpredictable, especially with the slow weapon you have.
That is correct."this game is so scary, it destroys Silent Hill in every way!"

As for story, RE games not known for really "deep" storylines either. Story here is your regular ghost story, and suits the game well.
I found combat to be original, especially with your own weapon being a slow camera. It makes fights much more intense, and with ability of ghosts to attack you from all sides and appear out of walls, make combat much more intense. It might be frustraiting, but done in the same vein as in RE, if combat was more efficient, the game would loose some of the scariness and intensity. It might be a cheap tactic, but it worked for Capcom for last 8 years.- "Combat" really sucks ass, unless I'm missing something big here.
