Barthez's place as France's #1 goalie seems safe for now, Santini is 100% satisfied with his performances. However if he gets no matches from october til Euro '04 then his position will be reviewed.

Anyway i'm just happy that France are through and Israel are out of it (having them in any sort of European competition is ridiculous, good riddance).

Crap teams? Some of us don't pick our teams based on how many honours they have won lately Mr Man U Glory Hunter.

Sweden and Czech are hardly crap teams!

Czech have a lot of great players in the side and historically they have always been a top team. They were #3 in the world not too long ago. They made the finals of Euro 96 (won Euro 76). The old Czechosolvakia was WC runner-up twice (same # of times as Holland) and made the quarters 2 other times. Simply put, they are obviously a better team than Holland right now (being undefeated and beating Holland should make that obvious ehough) and have a better chance of making noise in Portugal, if Holland even makes it there.

As for Sweden, they made it out of the group stage at last year's WC by knocking out Argentina. Holland didn't even make the WC! In 94 Sweden came in 3rd place. When they hosted the WC in the 50s they made it to the Final. Not what I'd call crap, personally.
I was going to dig up some statistics about that, 'crap teams'? Well I expect such disrespect and ignorance from a Manu fan on footballing matters Glory hunters indeed.

I agree. I am glad Slovenia got second as well. It's quite silly that Isreal are in UEFA, though I can understand why they dont play in Asia with the other teams from their region.

I hope the 2nd place playoffs are not seeded to try to help the big name teams like Holland. Maybe if Iceland hold on to second they could draw Slovenia and make it - not that Slovenia is a slouch.

France look good heading into Euro 04. I am sure they will be very keen to defend their Championship and make up for their WC disaster. I have not seen the odds but I'd mark them down as the favourite.

Holland is a great team. The Czech team is good too, but I guess I just like Dutch players more so it's really and opinion thing on both sides. Ugly guy? Oh yeah Kluivert. Yeah, he's pretty ugly. Not like Van Nistelrooy.

It was actually meant as a joke. Notice the winking eye thing at the end of my post. But now that you mention it, Iceland? Canada? Liverpool?!? But in all honesty, all of you who don't like Man Utd feel that your somehow better than everyone else because you didn't give into the dark side or something. Since you obviously know nothing about me I feel it a little wrong to judge me as some sort of snob who thinks he knows everything. Perhaps I'll start calling you guys "elitest pigs" since you seem to think you're higher than everyone else for no other reason than you like a different team than I do. Pretty childish.

Call me a glory hunter if you want, but I just like watching the best football in the world. And Man Utd usually delivers the some of the best players in the world and puts a good product on the field. That's what I'm interested in. I actually really like the Czech team. Always a scrappy bunch. I don't really know much about the Sweden team, but I have seen them play and there decent I guess. It's all about quality football to me...and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

BTW, I got my new Man Utd 3rd shirt today with Ronaldo's #7 on it. Pretty sweet. I'm gonna hang it next to my other 8 shirts on my Wall O Fame! Heh.

    So far I have:
    Van Nistelrooy #9 Holland
Van Nistelrooy #10 Man Utd Home
Van Nistelrooy #10 Man Utd Away (white)
    Owen #10 England Home
    Beckham #7 Man Utd Home
    Beckham #23 Real Madrid Home
    Mahdavikia #2 IR Iran Home
    Azizi #11 IR Iran Home
Ronaldo #7 Man Utd 3rd Shirt (white w/red stripes)

Anyways, that's enough out of me. Holland will be at Euro 2004 and I'm sure there going to do very well.

Barthez is a goofball. France need to forget him and put in someone else. I expect France to play very well, especially after their poor performance in WC 02. Israel... ...

  4. Dude stop trying to justify yourself, gooners and scousers (hell, anyone) will always take a cheap swipe at Manu fans. There's nothing else to it so don't go off on one. Regardless of how much we dislike your boys, noone will deny that they play damn good football that is fun to watch. Liverpool however... ha, no comment

Maybe if Israel didn't spend so many resources building illegal settlements, 10 foot high walls, destroying people's homes and shooting civilians, they could participate in the correct qualifying region, but I digress... shit team anyway

Barthez has been awesome for France and should look for a new club team. Simple as that.

  5. listen man utd haters i just want to make something clear i was a manutd fan since i was a kid , aside from a few local teams , the reds were the first team i can remember watching along with brazil on the nationals side so their

czech , holland and sweden are some of the best teams that didnt win the WorldCup , as for myself i was really sad while watching the holland czech cuz i cheer for both and i hope that holland reach EURO 2004

as for barthez i am not a france fan but they could use the goalkeeper from the confederations cup i 4got his name

  7. Way to go Man Utd!! Van Nistelrooy knocks in two to get United back on the winning path. Made all the better by Pompey taking points off of Arsenal. Another good performance by Michael Owen as Liverpool put in a repeat performance of last week with Owen scoring twice and Kewell adding another in as many games. Shame that Newcastle let Everton equalise late, but Shearer looks pretty comfortable after signing the extension. Chelsea won again, but doesn't look very sure to me. Another late score by Hasselbaink after he was booked. Great day in the Premiership.

I think you sorta walked into that one yourself by calling Czech & Sweden crap teams. The way I see it is that Man U fans have a justifyiable reputation. They have many casual nknowlwedgeable fans and most of them live nowhere near Manchester (you know, that place with all the City fans?). If you live up to it, you deserve the stick you get - if you are an exception, then you only get minor teasing.

Anyway, it was the first time you said something so silly.. so I had to call you on it.

Nice collection. Especially the Owen one and except for those Beckham ones.

    Here is my collection:

    Liverpool 95 Change (Green/White quarts)
Liverpool 96 Home (1st Reebok kit)
    Liverpool 98 Change (Yellow)
Liverpool 99 Change (Green w/Diagonal stripe)
Liverpool 00 Home (The Tremble winning kit!)
    Coventry City Home 97ish
    VfB Stuttgart 99 White
    Norway 96 Red
    Norway 98 Red (WC)
    Sweden 98ish Yellow (W/ tie-down collar)
    Sweden 00 Yellow
    Czech 96 Red

I think I am forgetting something.

I really need to get last year's smart looking Liverpool change kit, the black one.

Anyways, that's enough out of me. Holland will be at Euro 2004 and I'm sure there going to do very well.
What if they draw Spain in the playoffs?

Not many Liverpool supporters will disagree with you there.... though Houllier is playing less predictably and more offensively so far this season.

Frankly, I don't care how pretty it is as long as we get results.

I could not agree more... but that's all I will say about that, less this thread turn political.

    I slept through everything!

Well, I caught the end of Pompey's impressive draw.

Good result for the Mighty Reds, so I am happy... tho' it sucks about Baroš' broken ankle. I wonder if all the people who jumped off the bandwagon a few weeks back will be joining up again?

I like the Czech team. Koller is an excellent player. But's it's no more silly than saying Holland is no good. Losing to Czech was their first loss in the group.

Nice collection. Especially the Owen one and except for those Beckham ones.
Hey don't hate on Beckham. Yeah he's kind of gay, but he's a great footballer. I'll miss him wearing a Man Utd uniform. I'm still looking to get the new Man Utd away kit (the black one).

    Update IPL:
    Perspolis 5-1 Fajr

Daei scores two more to give the reds another impressive win. Looks like it's going to be 2 in 3 years at this rate.
