Thread: FM Transmitter

Is that a good head unit? I looked on bestbuy.com and circuitcity.com and couldn't find any info on it.

I'm a bit of an audio snob... so keep that in mind.

  2. The nice thing with FM transmitters is that you can play your portable device on just about any nearby sound system.

Sound quality be damned. If you wanna hear your favourite song badly, you wanna hear it badly. If you want quality, you'll go to the trouble of hooking up a direct connection.

It's the "quick and dirty" solution, which in many forseeable cases is the best.

  3. I was using an I-rock modulator for my plug in play XM radio, and it sucked. Sound quality wasn't TOO bad, had to switch stations alot as there seemed to be a lot of random interference, but I constantly forgot to shut it off and was killing batteries all the damn time.

I replaced my old head unit with a Pioneer with line in... much much better.

It's an older model head unit, so you won't find it in with the current lot at stores. It's from Clarion's Pro Audio line so it's pretty good quality - I've been happy with it so far. Here's some info: http://hardwarecentral.dealtime.com/xPO-Clarion_DXZ_525

If you're an audio snob you'll definitely not like the FM Modulator.

Plays mp3/wma on CDR, there is a cheaper one thats practicaly the same unit minus mp3 playback for like $100 less.

In fact, any Pioneer deck with "IP BUS" can have a line input, you need a adapter to do it, it can be tricky to get some places, but can be bought directly from Pioneer..

actually... if your sony has changer controls, I just noticed this on crutchfield, http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N

$100 isnt cheap, but the sound quality might be worth it, and its still cheaper than buying a new head unit.

If we are talking "audio snob" here, $100 is cheap enough to worry about it being "too cheap".

OK... I picked up the FM transmitter today.

Its good enough for a temporary fix.

I don't reccommend it to anyone for a long term solution.

Something cool about hearing my band on the radio though...
