Thread: Burnout 3

  1. I used to not give a shit about custom soundtracks until I used them in Burnout 2. The tracks in 3 at least seem licensed and if they're decent I won't quickly change it to "Will's mix".

As long as the music keeps me pumped or just sets the mood perfectly that's all that matters.

Oh, and custom soundtracks should be included in every X-Box racer.

  2. Wait, I still don't get it. Why not your stereo?

because it's nicer to have the track changing interface right in the game. and it's nicer to have the music coming out of the same speakers as the game. and it's easier to play a game-specific mix if the mp3s are right on your xbox's hard drive. and if the music integration is adequate, it actually adds something to the game

ie. in burnout 2, your custom soundtrack actually gets louder when you hit the boost. not to mention espn football's incredible user-created soundtrack option, where you can choose music for nearly every possible event in the game.

  4. The stereo? Well for one thing the radio mostly sucks and second I don't have a stereo where I play my vids. And what does the stereo have to do with Wipeout 3?

Come to think of it, I don't think I've really heard a game soundtrack that I really disliked. I usually just tune it out anyway.

  5. Those games are the exception instead of the rule in regards to racing game soundtracks. Far, far too often, they're complete crap, making custom soundtracks a game-saver in some cases. I prefer great original scores anyday of the week, but since those are now sadly rare in this genre, I'll go with the next best thing, custom soundtracks. Playing the Sonic CD theme while playing this game will be quite awesome.

  6. Because my gaming setup is wired through my stereo. Isn't everybody's?

  7. Nope.

Epmode just hit the nail on the head here. To me, having mp3s coming out of my computer as I play a video game on my Xbox with the game music turned off is just distracting. When they're merged together (custom soundtrack or good enjoyible game music), it's a beautiful thing and adds to the experience.

On that note, IGN put up some new movies for Insiders. The game looks more amazing every time I see it, and the soundtrack EA has in there totally turns me off.
It's also surreal to see EA advertisements in a Burnout game. Gaint banners of NFS: Underground 2 and Tiger Woods PGA 2005? What the hell are you doing on the side of buidlings?

  9. They're immersing you in the pleasant glow of commerce.

  10. I didn't like Underground at all. Hope 2 is better.
