    Fixed it for you.

...come on. The same game? They completely changed the driving mechanics (mainly via how boost is handled, obtained, and used), added a new core game mechanic (battling with and taking out other drivers), and completely overhauled the crash mode. Minor update this is not.

Bitching about the tutorial video is inane. Would it be nice to skip it? I guess. It is two minutes though, go up and make a sandwich before you start your first race if it peeves you that much. There is a damn good reason why the tutorial is required, though -- people have this nasty tendancy to skip instructions only to go "OMG WTF y am i gettin pwned?" when they play their first game.

If you do not like the music and DJ (and a lot of people do not), then use your own soundtrack and turn the DJ off -- it is that simple.

But how can you eat the sandwich while dodging traffic!?!?!?!?!

Warning: Playing Burnout 3 while eating a sandwich may be hazardous to your health

The palette and color design seems very crap so far, but there is nothing which can be done about that. It doesn't seem like they changed a whole lot except adding multiplayer mode. Perhaps it should have been called Burnout 2.5 remix or something. I still prefer Burnout2 over this mess. I mean; grunge music and a heavy rocking narrator and dj??? ARG!

Notice how once you never mentioned the vastly improved gameplay? You can stick with vs race and crash mode in Burnout 2 while I'm playing Road Rage mode in Burnout 3 on X-Box Live, SUUUUUUUUUUCKERRRRRRR!!!!!

  3. Few gripes:
More than 2 views would be good.
    Rear View Mirror.
Making the Crash Total Rewards not cumulative and adding only the $ you win beyond what you have already won would make the game much tougher and enjoyable.

Perhaps you shouldn't have shut off the game during the short and immediately forgettable instruction video so that you would have had a chance to play it and actually know what you're talking about. Also, there's this thing called a "menu" that you might want to visit, options exist for a reason. Also, it's got the same palette and color design as the rest of the series, what were you expecting?

*flashbacks to Master's recent post on Pure Pinball and people complaining about things easily changed*

Agreed, this has always bugged me about the series but I generally got over it pretty quickly.
    Rear View Mirror.
Personally I have a hard time using rear view mirrors in racing games, it's usually too small for me. I prefer using a lookback button to flash the screen, it's just easier for me to tell how far away people are and their exact location.

Hm, yeah, that would've been nice.

  6. The lookback button is never a substitute for a rear view mirror, nor are they mutually exclusive.

I know it will not be a large mirror, but having some idea where someone is behind you would help. I'm not going to flash behind me when I'm doing 165 down the wrong lane of traffic and weaving inbetween traffic.

  7. All the positive word here has me thinking about renting this game tonight, or at most, over the weekend. The lookback feature is horrid in most games, as you can only use it for so long before you're going to fuck up and crash horrendously. With this series, I'm not sure how well a rear view mirror would work, given the quick pace, but it certainly couldn't hurt to have it as an option.

  8. It is one of a few gripes. Personally, I think this game needs a PGR2-like Map with icons so you can see how far ahead/behind you are. A few little things about it are odd or just plain lame, but it's still a fantastic game.

    Mark it 9.5/10.

  9. I miss the music volume increasing with the boost. Also, is anyone doing good with the in-car view? It's my favorite in racing games, but because you have to tangle with other cars a lot in this it doesn't seem like a good idea. Other than that, goty so far

  10. I use 3rd person. Too sketchy to use 1st person, and the cars, even only at Muscle class seems too fast to use it.

I just did a few Team Take Out or whatever, where you get 3 red cars, 3 blue, the blues get a head start and the reds have to damage them and prevent them from finishing the race. Pretty cool.

I'm on Live in about 15.
