Boot off of your Windows 2000 CD and use the recovery console. SVCHOST needs to be replaced. Either that, or format and reinstall.
I use Windows 2k and there is this program named svchost.exe that keeps on crashing. This is fucking up almost every other program I use, everything from Internet Explorer to Word is fucked as this program is supposed to somehow link them all together. Can anyone help me out on this one? Thanks.

Install this patch: http://microsoft.com/technet/treevie...n/MS03-026.asp
Then follow these instructions to remove msblast.exe: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ster.worm.html
It's likely that you have gotten the W32.Blaster worm that's making the rounds. It causes all sorts of headaches- I know, because I've been dealing with it all day. Here's what you'll need to do:Originally Posted by xS
1) Grab the patch from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS03-026.asp
Apply it, then reboot.
2) Get the W32.Blaster removal tool here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
3) Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to open task manager, then click on the processes tab. Sort the processes by name and end msblast.exe
4) Quickly run Fixblast.exe that you just downloaded. If you have an antivirus on your machine, disable it first.
Any questions post them here or PM me....
EDIT: DOH! I must have been typing this at the same time as base. Oh well...
You guys need to make a hardware firewall and windows update your new best freind...
I've been dealing with the virus, since last night. The system recieves an error and shuts down in 59 seconds. I think I've corrected the problem through Nortan Antivirus and Microsoft's patches.
I just had to kill off this damn Blaster worm myself.
What a pain in the ass. Whenever I dialed up, I'd get a svchost.exe error. After that I couldn't cut and paste, use the start menu, drag icons, use the task manager etc.
This is why I'm glad that I have my OS X server doing the firewall in addition to the routing and all. Otherwise, Sapphire'd be having the same problem as everyone else since her machine has XP on it.![]()
I have XP, but I'm a competent computer user and had already applied the patch as soon as I heard about the worm (which was a day or two after it was publically announced) so my shit is squeaky clean! Also, as mentioned numerous times before, having a firewall helps bigtime.![]()
I went to go block port 135 on my firewall at home, but I had already done it and forgot about it...
Seriously though, linksys/dlink/smc routers can be had now for less than $50, there is no reason not to have one anymore...
